Job Description
The Control Room Engineer will be responsible for plant operations from the control room to ensure the plant meets the required availability, reliability, efficiency, generation and cost targets, safely and within strict environmental limits.
- This will include regular equipment start-ups, shutdowns, changeovers and regular operation / monitoring, as well as responding to alarms and emergency conditions.
- The role requires a detailed understanding and practical experience of the technologies associated to operating a modern Gas Turbine plant, Desalination plant and a wide range of auxiliary equipment.
- The jobholder operates under the general guidance of the Shift Charge Engineer The jobholder is free to plan and manage own areas of activity within policy/procedure constraints.
- Any extraordinary issues arising outside of set policies and procedures are referred to the Senior Operations Engineer and Production Manager for discussion and approval of recommended actions
**About this role**
- Safety & Environment:
- Ensures compliance to safety, quality and environmental management procedures.
- Operates plant within defined operating parameters to ensure safety of staff, legislative compliance, delivery of high quality products/services and a responsible environmental attitude.
- Raises Incident/Accident report when necessary.
- Participate in safety audits, tool box talks and safety walks. Plant Operations:
- Ensures optimum performance of the plant at all times and maintains the level of power and water export as required by off taker control centers
- Performs periodic plant test activities to ensure reliability of trip devices and standby plant equipment
- Performs safe plant start-up and shutdown procedures to maintain optimum reliability of power and water plant equipment
- Monitors performance of the plant during operation and shut down conditions
- Monitors and analyses performance parameters of the plant for change and performs corrective actions necessary to keep the plant in a safe and efficient running condition.
- Planning and controlled changeover/ shutdown of plant equipment for maintenance purposes
- Directs and guides field operators to operate plant equipment in the field and conduct routine plant test/changeover/maintenance activities
- Prepares the following reports ;
- Shift Reports
- Shift Production Control Room Log
- Other reports related to equipment operation
- Play the role of incident commander in case of emergency in the absence of the Shift Charge Engineer
- Raising Plant Defects and Planning:
- Raise work orders in CMMS to report plant defects and follows up on progress
- Coordinating with the SCE and maintenance staff to schedule planned and unplanned maintenance activities
- Prepare and issue safety documentation to ensure safe isolations from the system for the purpose of planned and unplanned maintenance activities Invoicing and Reporting Activities:
- Initiate trip reports to accurately record plant failures or trip conditions for further analysis Off taker and fuel gas and Sea water Supplier Coordination:
- Communication and coordination with National Control Centre of (1)Power (2) Water
- Communication and coordination the control rooms of (1) Gas suppliers (2) Sea Water suppliers
- Prepare and retrieve Power and Water availability declarations to power and water control centers
- Communicate gas requirements to gas supplier
- Prepare Tariff Energy Meter Report and send to National Control Centre Policies & Procedures:
- Compliance to operational procedures and instructions to ensure work is carried out safely and in a controlled and consistent manner.
- Adhere, prepare and revise Standard Operating Procedures based on accepted standards for efficient, safe, and reliable operation. Performing HV Switching under Kahramaa and RLPC switching authorization
- Attain the Safety Controller Authorization
- Liaise with third parties ( Kahramaa, Q-power, Sea water supply company for safety documentation
**What you need to bring**
- An engineering related education to diploma level.
- Having knowledge and exposure of modern process operations.
- At least 3 years relevant experience
- Fire fighting.

**About this role**
- Accountable for ensuring execution of work is technically aligned and in compliance with Company Operations, Policies, Standards of Business Conduct and Company Project Management System (COMPANYPMS);
- Perform a cold eyes review of key electrical FEED deliverables;
- During the ITT phase, provide technical information/clarifications requested by the bidders;
- Leads electrical engineering design and planning activities and ensures EPC contractor develops detailed design in accordance with local regulatory requirements, industry standards, project specifications and any approved variations;
- Resolve electrical discipline issues to ensure engineering design addresses NFS Project’s expectations and objectives. Communicate and elevate issues before they escalate to Project Management when necessary;
- Review, evaluate and advise on electrical simulations, optimization, in compliance with design methods, safety factors (for Large Electrical Generation and Distribution System, Large motor drivers, VFDs in both Motoring and Generating modes, combined cycle power generation, HV switchgears, Electrical Integrated Control System (ELICS) and Power management System for Generation, Load sharing and Distribution Control);
- Review technical aspects of electrical equipment purchase orders with EPC Contractor and vendors in accordance with the roles and responsibilities stated in applicable contract(s) to ensure safe and seamless integration of new electrical equipment into the existing operating facilities (when applicable);
- Assess discipline plans and work schedules to ensure effective completion of project activities and provide data (narrative, charts, graphs), change management recommendations and recovery plans to address any schedule delays;
- Develop, update and amend design / project philosophies, specifications and procedures ensuring that all references to Electrical Engineering are current and relevant;
