Full Job Description

 Key Accountabilities & Activities:

  • Develop, conduct and submit research studies for peer reviewed publication.
  • Prepare, submit and administer research grants.
  • Contribute to the Institutional Research Committees and activities.
  • Develop a unified and coordinated research focus throughout Aspetar through liaison with relevant medical and allied health departments to discuss their research programmes. 
  • Provide advice on the professional and continued education of staff to produce maximum benefits to Aspetar and its employees.
  • Under the direction of the Centre’s Director, create and maintain the research facilities utilisation schedule to ensure efficient use of facilities.
  • Liaise with relevant departmental heads to disseminate relevant research findings and scientific literature into clinical practice.
  • Contribute to the organization of Research and Educational conferences for the region and internationally.
  • Represent the Centre (and Aspetar) at international conferences to present peer-reviewed research. Speak on behalf of the Centre at other relevant public relations events (i.e. television, radio, trade shows etc).
  • Manage the review of Aspetar projects and provide appropriate feedback to the principal investigator.
  • Provide an environment conducive to work by promoting a high standard of professional and ethical behavior, teamwork, and inter-disciplinary co-operation among staff.
  • In conjunction with Department Directors, determine their manpower and infrastructure requirements to conduct research projects that will produce relevant clinical findings and peer reviewed publications. In doing so, giving recommendations for research time required for the project.
  • Assume any other responsibilities as directed by the direct supervisor. 
  • Provide guidance and direct input to the development plans and performance management of direct reports to meet the AZF objectives.
  • Attend and successfully complete competencies which focus on patient safety initiatives implemented within Aspetar Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Hospital. Patient Safety Training is an annual requirement, to include all organizational leaders, staff, service, and contracted providers.

Necessary knowledge and Experience to be able to do the job:

  • 9-11 years of clinical research experience of which a minimum of 3-6 years should be in a similar position / responsibility, and preferably in a similar Industry.
  • Evidence of managing research groups/laboratories
  • Extensive publication record and evidence of successful research grants applications 

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to prioritize tasks, activities and resources in line with organizational objectives.  Demonstrates ability to monitor and review research plans and projects to ensure successful delivery.
  • Superior communication skills (written, oral, graphical and presentation). 
  • Ability to communicate complex information in a useful and relevant manner to both laymen and clinical professionals.
  • Good interpersonal skills. 
  • Enjoys interacting with a variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds. 
  • Analytical with good critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work well independently as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • An interest / personal background in research would be advantageous.
  • Able to work well under pressure.

Education and Certification requirements:

  • PhD degree in sports science, sports medicine or similar (e.g. kinesiology/physiotherapy).
  • Membership / registration with a recognized Sports Medicine / Science Association.
