Academic Job Description Soil and Crop Sciences Section Postdoctoral Associate The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) is a pioneer of purpose-driven science and Cornell University’s second largest college. Position Function This Postdoctoral Associate position will work on very-fine scale evapotranspiration modeling by combining satellite and UAV data with machine learning and AI. This individual will be responsible for processing data from Planet, Landsat and Sentinel satellites and collecting and processing UAV observations. They will use these processed data to model very-fine spatial resolution evapotranspiration data using methods including machine learning, AI, and two source energy balance-based evapotranspiration models. Anticipated Division of Time This position requires 10% of the time for field work and data collection, 60% of the time for data analysis, and 30% of the time for writing and publishing scientific articles. Requirements A Ph.D. in remote sensing, geography, environmental science, engineering, or computer science. Strong communication skills are essential, including the ability to write, publish, and present research effectively. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in using deep learning and AI on remotely sensed data and programming skills in Python, C, Matlab, or R. What is expected from you?

As an External Audit Senior Associate, you will be reporting to Managers and above, working as part of a team that helps the clients building trust, solving complex challenges, and proactively assisting in the management of several engagements. Your Commitment

Reporting to the Dean, College of Health Sciences, the Associate Dean plays a pivotal role in supporting and advancing the strategic vision and academic leadership of the College. This leadership position is integral to the effective planning, organization, and management of the College’s diverse academic programs and initiatives. The Associate Dean actively collaborates with faculty, administrative staff, and other stakeholders to foster a dynamic educational environment that promotes excellence in teaching, research, and service.

Key responsibilities include providing leadership in managing faculty and administrative teams, promoting faculty professional development, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality academic programs that align with the College’s mission and goals. The Associate Dean is dedicated to enhancing student success by supporting initiatives that improve learning outcomes, retention, and graduation rates.

Additionally, the Associate Dean is responsible for the comprehensive operational management of the College. This encompasses oversight of course scheduling, curriculum development, continuous program assessment and revision, faculty recruitment and retention, as well as budget planning and fiscal management.

The role demands close collaboration with Departments Heads and other College leaders to ensure efficient resource allocation and to maintain compliance with institutional policies and accreditation standards.

Qualifications

Earned PhD (or equivalent as designated and approved) in a relevant discipline from a recognized, accredited institution and should demonstrate evidence of scholarly, professional, and creative achievement sufficient to qualify at the rank of Professor/Associate Professor.

  • Professional Certification relevant to the Disciplines taught in the College.
Experience
  • 8+ years of employment experience with a combination of experience as a practitioner/ professional within the relevant discipline, as well as experience in a supervisory/management role within the relevant discipline.
  • Eligible Professors & Associate Professors that have exhibited consistent exceptional performance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a post-secondary institution where applied, industry-aligned programs in Health Sciences are offered.

Through policy research, partnerships, and innovations in training and education, the Institute provides information needed by policymakers, the labor and environmental movements, industry leaders and others to navigate the transition to a zero-carbon economy. The Institute serves as the academic and educational partner to the Climate Jobs National Resource Center, supporting coalitions of unions in multiple states.

What you will do

The successful candidates will leverage research, policy, training, and education to guide New York and the nation toward a strong, fair, and resilient clean energy economy—addressing the climate crisis, creating high-quality union jobs, removing barriers to opportunity, and building a diverse and inclusive workforce that uplifts frontline communities. The Institute studies labor and employment impacts of the clean energy transition, designs pro-worker, pro-union climate policy, and delivers training and educational programs to unions, policymakers, the environmental movement, industry leaders and others.

Specifically, the Extension Associate will:

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with labor unions (especially building trades and energy unions), environmental organizations, elected leaders, and other allies.
  • Lead policy and technical research and analysis to design jobs-centered, pro-union and equitable climate policy.
  • Plan, organize and implement educational convenings, trips, trainings and workshops based on CJI’s research, policy and expertise and partner needs.
  • Become subject matter experts in labor and employment impacts across clean energy technologies (solar, wind, geothermal, hydrogen, building upgrades, low-carbon transportation, and more).
  • Join a team committed to CJI’s mission, value deep partnerships with unions and labor allies, and foster a supportive, joyful and equitable team culture.

Term and location

Extension Associate is a non-tenure track, academic term position for up to a two-year term, with an initial term ending June 30, 2026. The term will automatically renew for the second year through June 30, 2027, contingent on available funding. Reappointment for additional terms is possible based on performance, available work and continued funding, and recommendations by the Executive Director and Senior Associate Dean for Outreach and Sponsored Research.

Qualifications & preferred qualifications

Required

  • Master’s or other advanced degree in related fields (industrial and labor relations, social science, labor economics, employment or labor law, workforce development) with relevant expertise in labor unions, inequality and equity issues, and climate change.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience working with the labor movement or on climate change with emphasis on worker, labor or social justice issues.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, action-oriented research setting.
  • Strong written and oral communication, and skills in quantitative, qualitative, and geospatial analysis, policy research and analysis.
  • Ability to work on several research projects simultaneously, and supervise research assistants.
  • Commitment to inclusion, belonging, and wellbeing; awareness of how one’s actions impact culture.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team; strong interpersonal skills; commitment to an equitable team culture.

  • 5+ years of experience in the labor movement or climate justice work with focus on worker rights or broader social justice efforts.
