Wood are actively seeking Expressions of Interest for Lead Technical Safety Engineer role to support future growth in our expanding business.
The projects team focusing on delivering across FEED, Pre-FEED, Brownfield, Greenfield scopes of work. In this role, you will be responsible for the execution of project work in accordance with the project execution plan, including Wood and/or Project Procedures on Safety and Quality Control within the man-hour, cost and the project schedule targets.

This is a long-term assignment based in Qatar.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Lead Technical Safety Engineer will be responsible for:
  • Provide integrity assurance of Process designs through appropriate application of Shell technical standards and specifications, implementation of DCAF and review of design deliverables and activities.
  • Ensure schedule and cost considerations are included in design decisions, while maintaining primary responsibility to assure safe and appropriate quality designs.
  • Ensure repeated delivery of projects with HSSE & SP risks demonstrably managed to as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP), creating a workplace without harm.
  • Ensure Technical HSE Engineering activities are executed in alignment with Shell's Project Delivery Roadmap and Opportunity Realization Process.
  • Validate strategies/conceptual designs during early project phases.
  • Support COMPANY in auditing construction field activities for compliance and assist in resolution of field non‐conformance issues as required.
  • Ensure design meets requirements of Shell's HSSE Framework.
  • Design and develop, as required, innovative technical approaches to the broader Technical HSE engineering issues and contribute to continuous business improvement initiatives (fit for purpose)
  • Deliver integrated HSE risk management support (including hazard identification, major hazard assessment, developing HSE Cases and contributing to layout reviews, human factors and health risk assessments, ESH impact assessment, as part of the Hazards and Effects Management Process) across the full lifecycle of the projects.
  • Identification and communication of HSSE best practices
  • Provide (one stop shop) Technical HSE engineering support and delivery in accordance with the HSSE & SP Control Framework and associated standards, guidelines and relevant regulatory safety requirements for QPH projects.
  • Accountability for technical HSE engineering deliverables and engineering execution planning support including provision of senior engineering expertise.
  • Proactively working with the Engineering Manager to key Projects on track and achieve Top Quartile (TQ) performance for the portfolio.
  • Drive and delivery of an ever‐increasing effectiveness and efficiency in producing project designs, through Elimination, Simplification, Standardisation and Automation balanced against the need for Top Quartile FEL in, and quality designs for the Qatar Project Delivery Hub projects.

Experience:
  • BSc., University in Chemical Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 15 years' experience in Brown Field Oil and Gas related Technical HSE Design and Engineering out of which minimum 5 years' experience in Brown Field Oil and Gas Project Delivery as an Umbrella Contract
  • Lead Technical HSE engineer function in a multidiscipline Workforce.
  • Performs as a professional Technical HSE engineer for projects and plant modifications from Front End
  • Development through execution / commissioning and start‐up
  • Fully conversant with quantitative risk and consequences simulation software such as PHAST risk, FRED (Must)

You are fluent in English with both written and verbal communication

    Typical responsibilities
    • Ensures Wood and Client Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures are followed and that a high standard of safety is achieved in all associated work

    • Proactively engages and interfaces with other disciplines / third parties to ensure delivery of work scope to meet project and client expectations
    • Produces, review, and take accountability for the accuracy of detailed calculations, Instrument and Control engineering datasheets and other engineering deliverables to define the I&C and F&G engineering requirements of our projects. Such deliverables including but not limited to the following:
      • The design basis, instrument schedules/index, sizing calculations and instrument datasheets (control valve, relief valves, flow / pressure / level instruments, cable, etc), Control & Shutdown System Philosophies, etc.
      • Preparation and development of enquiry packages including Specifications, Datasheets, Request for Quotation and Technical Bid Evaluation.
    • Provide direction and guidance to designers in the production of I&C drawings such as field instrument & LER layouts, routing & layout drawings (cable, tray, MCT, etc), wiring & termination & loop diagrams,
    • Reviewing, checking and approving of the I&C deliverables to ensure accuracy and alignment with the scope of work prior to issue
    • Works closely with Process Engineering for the timely completion of P&IDs and Cause & Effects to meet with project deadlines, providing input as necessary for the instrumentation and controls
    • Reviews and approves material take off for the I&C discipline
    • Completes technical reviews and audits within the I&C discipline for projects of varying complexity
    • Completes site surveys and data gathering activities for brownfield scopes of work
    • Remain up to date with the latest technical developments in your fields of expertise
    • Takes a proactive approach to personal & professional development
    • Seek and support opportunities for department and project improvement and contribute to developing solutions

    • Engineering Degree in Instrumentation & Control, Electrical & Electronics Engineering or similar with a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience
    • Enrolled on the Register of Engineers in the State of Qatar, Grade A Category as a mandatory requirement

This is a key role within the Wood Doha office delivering across study, FEED, EPC and PMC scopes of work. In this role, you will be responsible for the execution of project work in accordance with the project execution plan, including Wood and/or Project Procedures on Safety and Quality Control within the man-hour, cost and the project schedule targets

    Typical responsibilities
    • Produce, review, and take responsibility for the accuracy of detailed calculations, process engineering datasheets and drawings to specify the process engineering requirements of our projects
    • Supervise less experienced process engineers where required
    • Follow company standards and procedures to schedule and budget as advised by the Lead Process Engineer
    • Remain up to date with the latest technical developments in your fields of expertise
    • Demonstrate, provide and develop appropriate technical solutions for specific project issues
    • Ensure the delivery of challenging project and client targets using sound technical knowledge and decision-making skills
    • Take a proactive approach to personal & professional development
    • Ensure Wood and Client Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures are followed and that a high standard of safety is achieved in all associated work
    • Demonstrate appreciation of commercial and technical risks, managing these appropriately within own work and highlighting any significant issues to Lead Process Engineer
    • Seek and support opportunities for department and project improvement and contribute to developing solutions

    Experience:
    • Degree qualification in Chemical Engineering, and preferably a member of a relevant professional body or institution.
    • Minimum 10 years' experience in Oil & Gas post-graduation
    • Qatar MME Grade A registered engineer
    • Experience of working in a variety of projects and phases, including greenfield and brownfield, on and offshore, Concept through to EPC, with a focus on upstream
    • A self-motivated, proactive individual with high achievement drive and initiative, excellent verbal and written communication skills and good organisational awareness
    • Ability to impact and influence fellow workers

    Software
    • Able to produce process simulations using Aspentech Hysys. Ability to use other simulation tools such as Pro-II will be an advantage
    • Use of flow assurance software including OLGA and PIPENET
    • Experience of Aveva P&ID and/or Smartplant P&ID software

    Applicants are required to:
    • Have demonstrable experience of working within a small project office or team, supporting cross discipline activities beyond their core discipline
    • Have demonstrable experience of recruitment within their discipline, including interviewing, candidate selection and team building within small discipline teams.
    • Have demonstrable experience of working independently / remotely from technical leadership personnel (although functional leadership will be within the Doha office.
    • Have demonstrable experience of working within a small project office, supporting cross discipline activities beyond their core discipline

    Senior Project Engineer - Marine

    JOB PURPOSE

    This role supports the Head of Section in managing marine engineering activities related to the design, development, coordination, implementation, execution, and control of marine works within Major Projects, ensuring alignment with the Company's strategy, commitments, and goals.

    The position provides specialized technical guidance in marine engineering, including problem-solving, decision-making, and analysis of marine infrastructure and facilities, applying innovative and analytical techniques to achieve Project objectives. The role-holder is also responsible for promoting, adhering to, and ensuring compliance with QAFCO's Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental, Energy, and Quality systems and standards.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

    Marine Engineering Design & Technical Management

    Lead the review, coordination, and integration of marine engineering deliverables (jetties, quay walls, revetments, breakwaters, dredging, marine pipelines).
    • Review and accept technical specifications for all marine systems and equipment, ensuring compliance with Project specifications and international standards (API, BS, DNV, PIANC).
    • Coordinate with EPCC Contractor and Subcontractor (design consultants) to resolve technical queries and ensure timely issuance of Issued-for-Construction (IFC) documents.
    • Review and validate design calculations, drawings, and specifications for constructability, operability, and maintainability.

    . Procurement, Bid Evaluation & Subcontractor Documentation

    Participate in the review and technical evaluation of bids for marine works and equipment, ensuring alignment with project requirements.
    Review the preparation of Purchase Orders by EPCC Contractor for marine scope, providing technical input and clarifications as needed.
    Review and accept Subcontractor documentation, including method statements, fabrication drawings, and quality plans, ensuring compliance with contract and project standards.

    Interface & Multidisciplinary Coordination

    Act as the focal point for marine engineering interfaces with civil, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and product handling systems.
    Ensure alignment of marine infrastructure with ammonia and urea loading systems, utilities, and onshore facilities.
    Coordinate with construction, commissioning, and operations teams to ensure seamless integration of marine systems into the overall plant infrastructure.

    Fabrication, Inspection & Expediting
    Oversee fabrication activities for marine structures and equipment at vendor and subcontractor facilities.
    Participate in inspections as per Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), including factory acceptance tests, welding inspections, and coating checks.
    Monitor and expedite fabrication and delivery activities in line with the project expediting plan.

    Profile

    Ideally, you should hold a Bachelor's degree and have a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience, including at least 5 years on major projects.

    Experience in Marine Engineering Design and Technical Management is essential.

    You should also possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills, along with a good level of computer literacy. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
