Responsibilities
The selected candidate will provide high-quality language services in Malayalam and Tamil, including transcription, translation, and interpretation. These services are essential for accurate and complete communication from various sources, ensuring that the original meaning and intent are preserved across all tasks.
Services Overview
- Translation: You will be responsible for translating aural, video recordings, and other multimedia materials from Malayalam or Tamil into English, maintaining the integrity and intent of the original content. This role requires acute listening skills, a deep understanding of both the source and target languages, and the ability to write clearly in English.
- Transcription: Your main task will involve transcribing audio and video content in Malayalam or Tamil, ensuring that the transcription is accurate, clear, and reflects the intended meaning of the original message. Proficiency in both the source language and English is crucial, as is the ability to interpret the content's context and nuances effectively.
- Interpretation: Rapid recruitment and positioning to meet user needs for live interpretation and translation/transcription services will be a regular duty. This requires agility, precision, and a high level of linguistic competency in both Malayalam and Tamil.
Qualifications
- Passport Requirement: Candidates must possess a valid passport. All passport-related expenses are the responsibility of the individual.
- Physical Examination: Candidates are required to pass a comprehensive physical examination, including assessments of medical history, height, weight, blood pressure, HIV antibody testing, and a chest X-ray. Candidates must be free from communicable diseases and in general good health. Vision must be correctable to 20/30 (Snellen) with binocular vision and free of color blindness. Hearing should allow for ordinary conversation at 15 feet with either ear, with or without a hearing aid.
- Physical Capability: Candidates must be physically capable of performing all duties, functions, and activities as outlined in the Performance Work Statement (PWS).
- Security and Health Compliance: Adherence to all specified security requirements is mandatory. This includes CENTCOM clearance and all necessary training, immunizations, and medical evaluations. Candidates must meet Category II (CAT II, SECRET) security clearance.
- Language Proficiency: Candidates must demonstrate mastery of English and the Specified Contract Required Language(s) (SCRL). This includes a minimum Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) level three (3) proficiency in their SCRL. Interpreters must understand and speak both the SCRL and English fluently, accurately convey and match the meaning of the source language, and be familiar with the cultural contexts and specialized terminologies of both languages. They must also observe protocols and master the modes applicable to various settings.
