Role Overview

We are looking for a proactive and qualified Environmental & Sustainability Engineer to join our project supervision team on a Roads and Infrastructure Project. The role focuses on ensuring environmental compliance, implementing sustainability measures, and supporting the contractor's environmental management plans in alignment with Ashghal's environmental guidelines, Qatar Construction Standards (QCS), and local authority requirements.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of experience, with at least 5 years in infrastructure projects related to environmental management and sustainability practices in Qatar.

Responsibilities :

1. Monitor the contractor's implementation of the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) and ensure compliance with all environmental permits and conditions.
2. Support the integration of sustainability best practices, including material reuse, energy-efficient operations, and low-impact construction methods.
3. Conduct environmental audits, inspections, and site assessments to ensure mitigation measures are in place (e.g., dust suppression, noise control, waste segregation).
4. Prepare and submit regular environmental and sustainability compliance reports as per Ashghal's KPIs and reporting framework.
5. Review and approve contractor submissions related to environmental protection, spill prevention, erosion control, and landscape management.
6. Liaise with MME, Ashghal's Environmental Department, and other local authorities for necessary approvals, inspections, and updates.
7. Promote awareness among site staff and subcontractors regarding environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and resource optimization.
8. Investigate environmental incidents, non-conformities, and complaints; develop and track corrective actions.
9. Ensure alignment of project activities with Ashghal's Corporate Sustainability Framework and ISO 14001 principles.
10. Support handover documentation regarding environmental compliance and sustainability contributions.
11. Maintain in-depth knowledge about GORD / GSAS certification systems.

Qualifications and Requirements :

1. Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, Environmental Science, or Civil / Mechanical Engineering (with specialization).
2. Minimum 10 years total experience, with at least 5 years in infrastructure / construction projects in an environmental role.
3. GORD / GSAS certified profession + ISO 14001 Lead Auditor, LEED GA / AP or equivalent (preferred).
4. Minimum five years' experience in Qatar.
5. Experience with GCC infrastructure projects.
6. Excellent command of English (spoken and written).
7. Knowledge of Ashghal standards, road material specifications, QA / QC processes, and stakeholder coordination.
8. Familiarity with document management systems (Ashghal DCS), MS Office, AutoCAD (viewing), and site-related software.

Key Competencies :

1. Strong understanding of environmental legislation in Qatar and the GCC region.
2. Practical knowledge of sustainability frameworks (LEED, GSAS, etc.).
3. Expertise in site-based environmental monitoring and mitigation strategies.
4. Ability to influence contractor behavior through proactive engagement.
5. Skilled in environmental reporting, documentation, and regulatory compliance.
6. Clear communication skills with multidisciplinary teams and regulatory bodies.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in renewable energy project development, design, or engineering.
• Strong technical skills in renewable energy system design, simulation, and analysis.
• Excellent project management and organizational skills, with a track record of successful project delivery.
• Knowledge of renewable energy policy, incentives, and regulations.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders.
