The role of an Engineering Manager at Canonical

Overview
This position involves using, maintaining, and updating a Sustainment Management System (SMS), currently BUILDER, to meet the requirements specified in this PWS. BUILDER is a web-based software tool designed to assist civil engineers, technicians, and managers in making informed decisions about building infrastructure maintenance. The candidate will manage and administer the BUILDER SMS database, ensuring its accessibility, accuracy, integrity, and currency. Additionally, the candidate will input data and perform quality assurance in collaboration with other squadron members.
Responsibilities
- Provide and maintain asset visibility for all facilities at the facility level and three subordinate levels through detailed inventory of systems, components, and section data, including all Type B, S, and LS facilities.
- Oversee and update the facility inventory in BUILDER, ensuring accurate data to support preventive maintenance activities such as coil cleaning, filter changes, V-Belt replacement, bearing lubrication, adjustments, and inspections, in accordance with manufacturer specifications and applicable codes.
- Include all installation real property installed equipment (RPIE) in the BUILDER database, following work prioritization requirements within specified timelines using automated work order management systems.
- Maintain synchronization of the SMS BUILDER facility inventory with the Air Force Accountable Property System of Record (APSR), NexGen IT.
- Follow a comprehensive safety program compliant with Vectrus, OSHA, and USAF requirements.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and professional environment in all work areas, free of dust, clutter, and trash.
- Implement and follow a documented, flexible training program.
- Properly utilize and safeguard all government and contractor property, including facilities, equipment, and tools.
- Accurately execute time reporting procedures and complete timesheets properly.
- Perform additional duties as assigned in accordance with contractual, functional, and mission requirements.
Qualifications
- Provide documented military school training on DD214.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Preferably possess certificates from Air Force BUILDER training courses via AFIT online, including WMGT 131 (Read Only Access), WMGT 231 (Assessor), and WMGT 331 (Data Manager).
- Must hold a valid U.S. Passport and Driver’s License (manual transmission preferred).
- Maintain a valid U.S. SECRET Security Clearance prior to deployment.
- Obtain an Air Force flight line driver’s license upon deployment.
- Pass a flight line access test and obtain a badge upon deployment.
- Meet employment and deployment requirements, including psychological, medical, dental, drug testing, and background checks.
- Successfully complete CBRN defense training, including fit testing for DOD-provided protective gear.

Responsibilities:
Lead and mentor a team of data scientists, providing guidance on best practices in data analysis, machine learning, and statistical modeling Develop and execute the data science strategy aligned with business objectives, ensuring that data-driven insights are integrated into decision-making processes Oversee the design and implementation of innovative data science projects that drive value for the organization Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for leveraging data to improve products, services, and operational efficiency Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, understanding their data needs and ensuring timely delivery of insights Monitor and evaluate the performance of data science models and adjust strategies as necessary to achieve desired results Promote a data-driven culture within the organization by communicating the value of data science initiatives to stakeholders at all levels Stay updated on the latest trends and developments in data science and analytics, and integrate new methodologies and tools as appropriate
Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field Proven experience in a data science role, with at least 5+ years of experience, including 2+ years in a managerial or leadership position Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and experience with data manipulation and analysis libraries Solid understanding of machine learning algorithms, statistical methodologies, and data modeling techniques Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) to communicate findings effectively Excellent project management skills and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, in English and Arabic Proven capability to drive collaboration across teams and influence senior stakeholders

About The Role
Accountable for interpreting data, analyzing results using statistical techniques and providing ongoing reports to the Management for informed decision making. Also, responsible to monitor MWP portfolio, programs and projects to ensure projects are effectively monitored and controlled through appropriate KPIs through their life cycle and actions are implemented to maintain the Portfolio on track.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights that inform strategic initiatives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to assess business performance.
- Develop and maintain dashboards and reports that provide actionable insights for management and stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements through data analysis and recommend solutions.
- Maintain the appropriate level of engagements with all relevant Stakeholders in order to get project data and populate reports on projects delivery.
- Making sure that all the monitor and control tools and techniques in place are updated and fit the purpose of the monitoring strategy.
- Being updated on the latest trend of technology on the monitoring of engineering and construction projects and propose improvement plans.
- Evaluate, prioritize and categorize MWP portfolio budgeting process based on business objectives.
- Collect, process, and perform statistical analyses on MWP portfolio.
- Develop and implement data collection systems and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and data quality of the MATAR portfolio.
- Create comprehensive reports that clearly convey findings and insights derived from data analysis.
- Maintain databases by performing regular updates and ensuring accuracy of information in the CAPEX dashboard.
- Utilize data visualization tools to present findings in an easily understandable format.
- Identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in complex datasets of projects, programs, and portfolios, and create dashboards that feature relevant key performance indicators, emphasizing risks, issues, and performance metrics.
- Check the budgeting process, monitor cost tracking, and access project cash flow, identifying instances of underperformance in a timely manner, analyzing root causes, and recommending mitigation strategies.
- Monitor project timelines highlighting timely underperformances, root causes and proposing solutions for mitigation.
- Communicate effectively to relevant stakeholders to get proper engagement for the success of the Portfolio.
- Perform other department duties related to his / her position as directed by the Head of the Department.
