Job Description
Arabic Language Specialist is responsible to tutor Arabic courses, teach and conduct workshops on listening, speaking, reading, and grammar skills, create new programs to support language acquisition and development, and develop language support resources. The specialist would be also required to perform the Arabic Writing Specialist’s duties if the need arises and as per Section Head’s instructions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide supplemental Arabic sessions to individual students and groups of students of all levels and disciplines.
2. Teach, conduct workshops, and deliver classroom presentations on remedial topics in Arabic listening, reading, speaking, and grammar skills.
3. Assist students with Arabic writing skills as needed.
4. Create new and targeted programs to support students with low levels of proficiency in Arabic Language.
5. Create new, and identify/ revise existing, paper and electronic language skills resources for students.
6. Track individual students’ progress and regularly communicate with faculty on student language needs.
7. Maintain individual student files.
8. Recruit, supervise, and train new qualified peer tutors.
9. Schedule, oversee, and evaluate peer-tutoring staff.
10. Refer students to other campus support services such as the Academic Support Section, the Student Counselling Center, Library, etc., when appropriate.
11. Participate in committees designated with specific tasks such as event planning, updating the e-newsletter, and social media outlets.
12. Support in the implementation of the operational plan for the section in the line with the center’s strategy.
13. Participate in SLSC writing and language support events.
14. Participate in New Student Orientation and college orientation sessions.
15. Assist in the development and delivery of SLSC marketing campaigns.
16. Perform other tasks and duties that may be occasionally required in order to meet the requirements of the role and the aims of the University.
**Qualifications**:
Bachelor’s degree in teaching Arabic Language and/or Literature or a related field. Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
Minimum of one (1) year of experience in tutoring/teaching English.
Familiarity with technology-assisted tutoring.
Proven ability of good planning and organizational skills.
