Overview

We are looking to hire a Senior civil/structural engineer for a national oil and gas operator in Doha, Qatar.

Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years' experience in Structural Design & Construction, preferably in the Oil and Gas industry. Fluency in English is a must.

• Conduct Civil/Structural Engineering activities throughout all stages of the assigned projects
• Check and review all project drawings and documents (civil, structural, specifications, calculations and proposed materials) submitted by others in accordance with the project scope, specifications, applicable standards, participate in projects pre-commissioning, commissioning and hand-over activities
• Review and evaluate the Contract Changes/Variation to approved guidelines and applicable codes, standards and practices, make recommendations for approval or rejection of technical deviations
• Review and approve method statements developed by contracted organizations for scope compliance; liaise with contracted organizations to resolve technical issues
• Lead technical team and assist Senior Project Engineer for all technical matters related to the assigned projects
• Coordinate with appointed Qatar Registered Consultant (QRC), responsible for construction management and construction supervision, as required
• Conduct evaluation of technical bid packages for scope compliance
• Plan and co-ordinate activities of a team of multidiscipline engineers for providing timely delivery of technical services to meet the project requirements
• Co-ordinate engineering designs, develop and review multi-disciplinary work-scopes for projects and other engineering activities; ensure that the work-scope is comprehensive and clear
• Support the development of personal technical competency and skills and those of co-workers; participate in structured training for Associate Engineers
• Ability to work in a multi discipline/cultural environment
• Ability to resolve technical challenges related to Civil/Structural Engineering work and adjacent discipline issues

• Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent degree in Civil Engineering
• Master's Degree in Structural Engineering preferred
• Excellent knowledge of engineering and structural design experience
• Professional Engineer registered with reputable international Professional Engineering Institution will be added advantage
• Minimum 10 years' experience in Structural Design & Construction, preferably in the Oil
• Minimum 10 years' experience in Structural Design & Construction, in large buildings and civil/infrastructure projects, including at least 6 years' experience at Supervisory level
• Previous experience in water retaining structures and dewatering preferred
• Good knowledge in construction activities and project management
• Skill / knowledge of International and Local standards including BS, EN, ASTM and QCS related to his area of expertise
• Experience in projects' pre-commissioning, commissioning and Hand-over activities
• Possess good communication and presentation skills
• Good knowledge of English, both written and spoken
• Computer literate in mainstream MS Office products and structural design packages

Primary Purpose Of The Job

The Structural Engineer undertakes all civil and structural engineering analysis and design activities in projects and provides engineering support during the construction of any Idd El Shargi’s/Halul projects.

Required Experience And Skills

• 4 years in FE&C projects preferred

The Sr. Civil/Structural Engineer is expected to function as the Lead Civil/Structural Engineer on smaller projects and be responsible for all discipline technical and scheduling matters pertaining to the assigned project.

• Typically 15+ years experience focusing on pipeline facilities
• Qatar Engineering license (MME/MMUP/UPDA)
• Mandatory prior experience working with Qatar Energy on relevant projects
• In-depth knowledge of industry standards and codes published by ACI, IBC, AISC, ANSI, etc., and ability to apply the standards to civil & structural analysis & design
• Knowledge of civil/structural engineering analysis & design computer programs like RISA 3D, MAT 3D, Foundation 3D, LPile, etc.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Consultancy experience with Kent, Wood, Worley, BCCES, or Technip

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering
• Licensed Professional Engineer preferred

• Assist in the preparation of proposals
• Prepare or review discipline project specifications
• Prepare or review requisitions for inquiry in support of purchasing Pre-Engineered Steel Buildings, Structural Steel for supports, Pre-fabricated pipe supports, and subcontracts

• Prepare and review/approve proposals for Geotechnical Investigation & Topographic Surveys
• Develop or review site plans, grading & paving plans, building/ equipment foundation plans & details as required by the discipline

• Review plot plans and facilities for Civil/Structural requirements
• Coordinate with and provide liaison with client personnel relative to Civil/Structural activities
• Review and approve vendor documents
• Review and respond to the Request for Information from the project site during the construction phase
• Prepare or review engineering and design status reports, work plans and manhour estimates
• Review the discipline scope of work to be executed to ensure it matches project specification and/or the proposal documents as appropriate
• Accepts both short and extended term assignments to the site, client’s office, regulatory authority etc. as may be requested by the Chief Civil/Structural Engineer

He/she receives little supervision and in turn may provide technical guidance, as required, to lower classified personnel on assignments. Work is periodically reviewed by Chief Civil/Structural Engineer for accomplishment of objectives.
