Role Purpose
Research coordinator will assist the curatorial department in developing and delivering high quality exhibitions and related activities for Mathaf in line with the Museum’s vision and history, participating in research, development, and display of the Collection and temporary exhibitions, publications and interpretation, and all other activities of the Department. This position supports the museum’s curatorial department by contributing to the development of the exhibition and program strategy in response to Mathaf vision and goals. Provide curatorial support to the Director and Curator to research and develop the exhibition, talks.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Curatorial Research:
- Assists with day-to-day documentation and research of the collection
- Works with the Museum Collection, artists, partners, and colleagues to research and develop highly inventive and relevant exhibitions and programs
- Initiates, organizes and author programs from initial idea to completion, including Collection and special exhibitions, commissions and productions, publications, talks, screenings, broadcast material, digital or online work and investigations of displays and archives
- Assists in the development and delivery of exhibitions and programs, scheduling, and logistics in coordination with other staff; oversee a timely delivery of exhibitions.
- Provides content for departmental projects related to exhibitions and events, overseeing proper reproduction of images and copyrights
- Keeps an updated account of all exhibition and artistic program plan
- Works with colleagues in the Collections, Exhibitions, Education, and Research departments to share curatorial
- content and update.
- Coordinates, edits, and oversees writing for exhibition and publication related materials (hard copies and digital)
- Assists curatorial in preparation and delivery of quality presentations to various audiences (e.g. lectures, gallery talks for staff, patrons, visitors);
- Supports curatorial and research for interpretation; support translation and editing of interpretive materials (Arabic/English)
- Conduct original research and writing on Collection artists/artworks as agreed in the Collections development strategy for exhibitions, projects, talks, etc.; includes Research and propose artists and artworks for acquisition.
Stakeholders:
- Serves as the main liaison between research and other departments within Mathaf /QM and other related institution.
- Builds strong relations with QM different departments and external research, art, museums institutions.
- Attends research meeting and workshops, internally and externally as requested.
