Position Overview:
The Crane Operator 1 works under the direction of the Site Supervisor and is responsible for the safe operation of mobile, tower, or truck-mounted cranes to lift, move, position, and place construction materials, machinery, and equipment. Conduct daily pre-operation and post-operation inspections on crane systems including hydraulics, cables, controls, and safety devices.
Interpret lift plans, rigging instructions, and load charts to determine lifting sequences and radius requirements.
Work closely with riggers, signalers, and site engineers to execute lifts safely and accurately.
Set up crane properly using outriggers, mats, counterweights, and levelling mechanisms.
Monitor crane load limits and never exceed rated capacities.
Ensure the crane is operated on stable, suitable terrain and adjust setup if site conditions change.
Communicate effectively using standard hand signals, radios, or site communication protocols.
Secure and stow boom, jib, and rigging equipment at the end of each operation.
