Summary
Northwestern University Libraries seeks a Data Management Librarian to provide support, instruction, and assistance with research data management for faculty, students, and staff of the Northwestern community. The Research Data Management Librarian assists researchers with data management planning, finding relevant datasets, data organization, curating and sharing their research data, and complying with relevant data management requirements and policies. This support consists of teaching workshops, conducting individualized consultations, and providing services that advance research at Northwestern University.
The Data Management Librarian works within the Digital Scholarship department and collaborates with staff in the Libraries, Northwestern Information Technology, the Galter Health Sciences Library, the Office for Research, and Northwestern Schools and colleges to support data management initiatives across the Northwestern campuses including outreach efforts to researchers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the development and delivery of data management services, ensuring delivery of support to researchers and recommend improvements to services based on Northwestern research requirements. Oversee and maintain related documentation, including internal and user-facing guides and service information.
- Understand appropriate discipline-specific repositories for the curation of data sets to assure compliance with federal mandates.
- Provide training, consultation, and outreach related to research data management policies and best practices to the Northwestern research community. Specifically, guidance and discussion on the best practices surrounding data management plans (DMPs), finding data for reuse (both open and licensed), data documentation and organization, sharing research data openly to increase collaboration and reproducibility of research results.
- Seek out opportunities to make data accessible to low-code and less-technical audiences.
- Meet with researchers to identify their data management needs; provide recommendations and assistance to meet those needs. Communicate unmet needs to Libraries leadership and Libraries partners.
- Facilitate use and promotion of existing resources for data storage, movement, organization, analysis and management such as Research Data Storage Service (RDSS), DMPTool, SharePoint, and Dryad data repository and other related technologies.
- Integrate good practices from library sciences (including library analytics, digital collections) and related fields to help guide the standardization of datasets, models and documentation.
- Provide guidance and instruction on choosing and using appropriate data management tools and platforms and data management policies and initiatives as they pertain to the Northwestern research community.
- Work as part of a collaborative effort across departments to design, update, and implement data management services. Clearly communicate project status and updates to the project team as appropriate.
- Act as the primary contact for subject specialists within the Libraries and research community on questions of data management; contribute to data repository development and related work in the Research Services workgroup; and work collaboratively with service units in the libraries, other University units, and schools.
- Identify and develop relationships with the Northwestern research community and peers at other institutions to facilitate collaborations, understand new research trends, and improve existing support. Represent Northwestern in consortia and national initiatives related to data management, Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA), and others.
- Ability to understand a user’s goals and translate those goals and objectives into actionable plans.
- Knowledge of best practices, policies, procedures, and standards relating to database management with commitment to ongoing enhancements.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including demonstrated ability to write documentation and communicate to non-technical audiences.

Engineering Manager - Data Platform

The data platform team covers the full range of data stores and data technologies, spanning from big data, NoSQL, cache-layer capabilities, and analytics; all the way to structured SQL engines like Postgres and MySQL. We aim to deliver fault-tolerant mission-critical distributed systems, and the world's best data platform.
We are looking for technical Engineering Managers to lead teams focused on Big Data and MySQL databases. We write code in Python and encode modern operational practices for data applications at scale on Kubernetes and cloud machines.
Location:
This role can be filled in European, Middle East, African or any American region / time zone.
What your day will look like
You will lead a team building scalable data solutions for Kubernetes and cloud machines You will hire, coach, mentor, provide feedback, and lead your team by example You will demonstrate sound engineering skill by directly contributing code when needed Effectively set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders Advocate modern, agile software development practices Develop and evangelize great engineering and organizational practices Ensure that your team delivers excellent products that users love by maintaining a culture of quality and engineering excellence Grow a healthy, collaborative engineering culture aligned with the company's values. Be an active part of the leadership team and collaborate with other leaders in the organization Work from home with global travel twice yearly, for internal events of one or two weeks duration
What we are looking for in you
A software engineering background, preferably with Python and Golang experience Experience running in production and at scale, preferably Big Data or MySQL Excellent judgement about people - their motivations, abilities, developmental needs, and prospects for success Proven ability to build high-quality, open-source software Proven to drive good engineering practices around performance and quality An open-minded attitude to new technologies and the drive to push the boundaries of what is possible The ambition to build products that improve how people operate software and infrastructure everywhere Love developing and growing people and have a track record of doing it Knowledgeable and passionate about software development
Additional Skills That You Might Also Bring
Specialist knowledge in one or more of Spark, Superset, MySQL, or similar Prior experience working with open source and a will to build products with the community

SummaryThe purpose of this role is to ensure accurate and timely data related to cancer patients, which will help in early detection, improving services, treatments, and increasing survival rates. The role involves maintaining the HMC Clinical Cancer Registry with precise data to assist in cancer services at HMC. The CTR examines medical and pathology records to determine patient eligibility for the registry, abstracts medical records by translating medical terminology into standardized codes recording diagnosis and treatment information, and protects patient information.
Education/Qualifications Required:- Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare related field plus Cancer / Tumor Registry Course OR
- Bachelor’s Degree plus Internationally certified Cancer / Tumor Registry Course.
- Minimum 8 years experience in healthcare related field, with 3 years in Healthcare Data Management for Bachelor’s Degree holders.
- OR minimum 9 years’ experience in Healthcare Data Management for a Bachelor’s Degree.
- Identify, compile, update, and maintain patient data from various sources.
- Abstract data into specialized medical software, including patient demographics, diagnostic procedures, treatment history, outcomes, follow-up data, and physician information.
- Maintain data quality, abstracting at a rate of 6-8 cases with an error rate of 10% or less, and keep backlog under six months.
- Assign appropriate codes for treatments, procedures, and diagnoses, review data for accuracy, and update as necessary.
- Perform lifetime follow-up on patient health, vital status, and disease progression for quality and planning purposes.
- Monthly case finding and review of reports, certificates, and records to identify cancer cases.
- Contribute to study planning, report writing, data analysis, and prepare reports as per guidelines.
- Create narrative reports, graphs, and presentations of tumor registry data.
- Liaise with the Ministry of Public Health regarding cancer registry data.
- Prepare and code abstracts according to ICD-O, SEER, AJCC, FORDS, and other standards, summarizing clinical history and observations.
- Perform other assigned duties.
