We are seeking a Railway Design Engineer for DB Engineering & Consulting GmbH, Qatar Branch. In this role, you will oversee rail systems and infrastructure design activities, monitor subcontractors' work, and ensure project compliance. The position is based in Doha, Qatar, offering growth opportunities.

Responsibilities:

1. Participate in concept design, feasibility studies, and engineering for railway and road connections.
2. Design and deliver railway infrastructure projects ensuring safety, reliability, and compliance with standards.
3. Plan and develop railway systems focusing on safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
4. Work on track design, stations, signaling, and supporting infrastructure for passenger and freight rail.
5. Create detailed designs for tracks, bridges, tunnels, stations, including alignment and drainage.
6. Integrate signaling and communication systems into railway designs.
7. Oversee design activities, review work, and monitor processes.
8. Review engineering reports and procedures considering operation and maintenance needs.
9. Identify issues and opportunities for improvements in design and engineering activities.
10. Perform structural and geotechnical analyses for safety and durability.
11. Assess and mitigate risks related to vibration, stability, and environmental impact.

Qualifications:

1. Doctorate, Master's, or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Railway Engineering, or related field.
2. At least 10 years of experience in railway design engineering, with hands-on project experience.
3. Experience in concept design, feasibility studies, and master planning for railway and road projects.
4. Membership in professional institutions and relevant licensure preferred.
5. Experience in GCC locations is a plus.
6. Knowledge of railway design standards (e.g., EN 13848, UIC, BS EN 50126).
7. Fluent in Arabic and English, with excellent communication skills.
8. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
9. Good management and leadership abilities, with experience liaising with government and industry stakeholders.
10. Proficiency in MS Office, MS Teams, SharePoint, and railway design software (e.g., Bentley Rail Track, AutoCAD Civil 3D).
11. Driving license required.

Structural Design Engineer
Our Middle East operations have an exciting opportunity for a Structural Engineer to join our Doha office in Qatar. To be successful, you must be a qualified Structural Engineer, with 5+ years of experience, a frequent user of FEM analysis software, and possess a solid understanding of current structural engineering technologies applied in the design and delivery of medium-to-large scale building projects.
You will also have:
•Proven core Structural Engineering skills and design experience
•Good understanding of structural mechanics
•Familiar with international design codes, BS/EN and American codes
•Thorough knowledge of Finite Element Analysis – a frequent user of structural software ETABS and SAFE
•Experienced in design documentation for various stages, concept design through to IFC
•A proven record of delivering medium-to-large building projects
•Ability to work independently and part of a team with enthusiasm to learn new skills
•Experience in interdisciplinary coordination
•Strong communication skills including written and spoken English skills
•Middle East experience is preferrable
•Be a Registered Engineer (or in the process of registration) with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) in Qatar.

Supervise and execute projects in accordance with the assigned design - interact with Consultants, Contractors, Companies, in the field of protection related to EHV Transmission projects. He shall have core competence in various protection schemes and shall be familiar with all types of protection relays specifically static and numerical relays of all manufacturers for various voltage levels.

Assists the Senior Project Engineer in the discipline of protection related to EHV Transmission Projects and all associated equipment, design, material, construction etc.

Prepare Project, general, technical and detail technical protection requirements for Grid, Substations, Generator and Transformer equipment, and review Contractor's design drawings and Design approval. Coordinate meetings with construction Contractors.

Site supervision on substation protection equipment, commissioning, functional testing of the relays, relay setting, end to end test, stability tests etc.

Review of CT sizing calculation, logic diagrams, Protection schematics and similar as submitted for approval by the Contractor and give comments as required to fulfill Kahramaa requirements.

Shall have a wide experience in Relay setting calculation for all types of protection relays specifically static and numerical relays of all manufacturers for various voltage levels. Review the protection documents for relay setting calculation and similar using standard relay setting software.

Troubleshooting and analyzing spurious/inadvertent/unintentional trips/faults occurring in the power systems during and after energization of the substation and make suitable recommendations for proper functioning of the Protection systems.

Plan, make program and implement the Proactive actions to be taken to avoid malfunctions and false tripping. Diagnose/configure/reconfigure/modify the existing configuration as per the requirement.

Education: Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering (with Power Systems and Protection as the core subject).

Work Experience: 8 years experience in Transmission Electricity Projects involving EHV substations, cables, OHL Lines etc. or in Power project construction, commission and execution.

Other requirements:

1. Fluency in English (both written and spoken).
2. Must be experienced in supervision and quality control of substation erection.
3. Ability to arrange and conduct meetings with Consultants and Contractors.
4. This position requires extensive traveling between venues/depots during normal and or outside office hours.
