Design Manager - Drainage

What You'll Be Doing
Leadership and Team Management:

  • Responsible for leading surface water/drainage design development, overall management of the infrastructure design services provided by others by managing and mentoring a large team of engineers and CAD technicians, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Promote accountability and professional growth within the team, ensuring high levels of engagement and motivation.
  • Responsible for managing the delivery of the design for the numerous projects by developing and applying QA/QC protocols, verifying consistency in the designs produced by the design team with respect to adherence to the design criteria and required standards.

Project Management

  • Oversee the design and development of all surface/groundwater infrastructure projects from inception to completion.
  • Manages the scope development and tendering process by the senior engineering staff for procurement of the design subconsultants as well as third party reviewers.
  • Develops the scope of engineering work, reports, schedules, and budgets for the assigned project elements, and monitors progress to meet schedule and budget requirements.
  • Performs various engineering and design assignments requiring the application of basic principles and fundamental theories studied in a four-year university engineering program, and available data in the civil engineering field.
  • Proactively identify potential project risks and implement effective mitigation strategies. Prepare and lead in fundamental engineering computations, material quantity take-offs, estimates, surveys, and designs including preparation of detailed requisitions for material purchase, services, and subcontracts.
  • Participates in the VE and manages all VE studies, constructability and other workshops; and drives the on-schedule submittal of the design deliverables. Keeps Project Management Team informed as to changes made to ensure timely processing of contract change orders. Maintains overall knowledge of drawings, specifications, general contracts and time schedules. Manages the responses to design RFIs and review/comment on change orders.
  • Ensures all infrastructure design works are comprehensive and discussed with the various engineers for the best implementation and installation of services in coordination with other parties and contractor.
  • Provides necessary technical support and design review / audit services to project management team ensuring the correctness and quality of implementation of requirements.
  • Assists the Project Manager in planning, directing, supervising, and controlling the execution of technical, fiscal, and administrative functions of the project or study.
  • Participates in determining the technical skills and staff hours required for successful completion of the project.

Communication and Coordination

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, maintaining clear and effective communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, including engineering, CAD, and other relevant departments, to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Facilitate regular project meetings to review progress, address issues, and align on project goals.

Quality Control and Assurance

Client and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Provide regular updates and reports to clients and stakeholders, demonstrating progress and addressing any concerns.
  • Ensures client criteria and scope are met by all engineering disciplines.
  • Expedites distribution of action items following discussions/meetings with the client and Project Manager.
  • Understands the client's business goals to enhance the project work.
  • Prepares technical reports and documentation of activity for the client and project management.
  • Obtains, analyses, and circulates technical and contractual information to project disciplines.

What Required Skills You'll Bring

  • Chartered engineer status from an internationally recognized organization.

Job Description:

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Design Manager specializing in high-end architectural and interior fit-out projects. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing design processes from concept to completion within the GCC region, particularly in the fit-out sector (commercial, hospitality, retail, or luxury residential). This role requires immediate availability and willingness to relocate to Saudi Arabia (KSA).

Key Responsibilities: Design & Technical Coordination:

  • Work under the direction of the Chief Architect to develop and manage architectural and interior design concepts.
  • Review and coordinate all design documentation including drawings, material specifications, and BOQs related to fit-out works.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Oversee the design and development of potable water, TSE, and foul sewage systems, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
  • Manage and mentor a large team of engineers and CAD technicians, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Develop and apply QA/QC protocols to ensure consistency and adherence to design criteria and required standards.
  • Manage the scope, schedules, and budgets for infrastructure projects, from inception to completion.
  • Perform engineering computations, material take-offs, and design assignments while providing technical support and design reviews.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, maintaining clear communication and providing regular updates throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and facilitate regular project meetings to ensure seamless project execution

What Required Skills You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 15 years of related field engineering experience, with at least 5 years of local Qatar experience.
  • Strong expertise in the design and management of potable water, TSE, and foul sewage systems, with minimal emphasis on surface water design.
  • Broad general engineering background and previous supervisory experience in a project engineering role.
  • Hands-on experience in delivering major roadway and infrastructure projects.

  • Chartered Engineer status from an internationally recognized organization is preferred.

Department: Design Management

Requirements:

  • Valid Municipality Classification (UPDA – Grade A/B as per office requirement).
  • Minimum of 7–12 years of experience in reputable consultancy firms.
  • Fluency in Arabic (English is an advantage).
  • Preferably of Arab nationality.
  • Strong knowledge of local codes and regulations (Qatar Construction Specifications – QCS, Municipality, Civil Defense requirements).
  • Proficiency in design and drafting software (AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Photoshop, MS Office).
  • Proven ability to lead and manage a team of architects and designers.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage the Technical Design Office: Organize, assign, and supervise tasks across the architectural design team.

  2. Prepare and Review Architectural Designs: Ensure compliance with client requirements, municipal regulations, and international standards.

  3. Develop and Review Shop/Construction Drawings in coordination with other disciplines (Structural, MEP, Civil).

  4. Handle Approvals & Submissions: Review, finalize, and follow up on drawings and documents with authorities (Municipality, Civil Defense, Kahramaa, Ashghal).

  5. Project Design Management: Oversee projects from concept design through to final approved drawings.

  6. Prepare Periodic Reports for senior management, highlighting progress, challenges, and recommendations.

  7. Ensure Quality Control: Maintain compliance with internal QA/QC systems and international design standards.

  8. Client Coordination: Communicate effectively with clients to understand requirements, present design proposals, and implement feedback.

  9. Team Development: Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical support to architects and junior staff.

  10. Time & Budget Management: Ensure timely delivery of high-quality designs within project schedules and allocated budgets.
