HBKU’s College of Law is a world-class provider of legal education with an international reputation for quality and innovation in teaching and research. Owing to its position at a global crossroads in terms of culture, business, and geopolitics, Qatar is at the heart of a region that requires leaders who can manage multi-faceted relationships that span different legal systems and who have a command of a wide range of skills. The College addresses this need by offering training to graduate students from a range of disciplines in the skills needed to understand the diverse legal systems – civil, common, and Sharia – that inform Qatari law and that govern complex events and transactions, both in the region and throughout the globe. The College offers a Juris Doctor (JD) degree, the first graduate law degree program of its kind in the MENA region, which was launched in 2015 and graduated its inaugural class in 2018. The College offers two LL.M. programs, an LL.M. in International Economic and Business Law and an LL.M. in International Law and Foreign Affairs. The three-year Doctor of Juridical Science (S.J.D.) is the College’s most advanced degree, and it was launched in 2021. It is one of the first full-fledged research-intensive doctorate degrees in the MENA region and one of the few of its kind outside the United States. HBKU College of Law invites applications for a faculty position to begin in the academic year 2025-2026. The candidate will be appointed at the rank of Full, Associate, or Assistant Professor, depending on qualifications, teaching, and research experience. The successful candidate would teach in the College’s JD, LL.M., and/or S.J.D. programs. The applicant will be responsible for teaching, conducting research, and performing service in the vibrant HBKU community, which is devoted to becoming a world-class research university. Also, to collaborate with faculty members and students to improve and contribute to the development of Qatar and the region by advancing knowledge and developing human capacity in the legal field. The ideal candidate would have expertise in or the ability to teach property law and intellectual property law, with the ability to teach other courses in the College curriculum. Conduct assigned courses or seminars to contribute to student learning. Supervise independent study activities to guide students in achieving their academic and professional goals. Serve as academic advisor to students to guide them in course and thesis selection. Serve on and chair university and College committees. Render service to the professional or lay community relevant to academic specialty. Direct research programs of undergraduate/graduate students and advise on research matters. Conduct research in the field of specialization and publish findings in scholarly journals or books. Serve on faculty committees dealing with such matters as curriculum planning and degree requirements and perform a variety of administrative duties. Participate in curriculum development activities, including the development of curricular materials and special instructional methods to further improve the university/college teaching material. Conduct research or undertake comparable scholarly activity to contribute to HBKU becoming a leading research university. Supervise research projects and theses to ensure the success of research projects and students. Seek funding support for research to help make HBKU a world-class research university. Other reasonable tasks as assigned by supervisor. PhD or terminal degree in law from an accredited university. Evidence of proficiency in teaching, student supervision, and curriculum and program development. For Professor candidates, 10-12 years or more of relevant full-time university teaching experience in research, higher education, or closely related areas in the industry (additional experience may be required to show equivalency), with evidence of increasing professional maturity and productivity. For Associate Professor candidates, 6-8 years of relevant full-time university teaching experience in research, higher education, or closely related areas in the industry (additional experience may be required to show equivalency), with evidence of increasing professional maturity and productivity. For Assistant Professor candidates, 2-5 years of experience in research, higher education, or closely related areas (additional experience may be required to show equivalency) as appropriate for the rank and subject matter of expertise, with evidence of increasing professional maturity and productivity. Research and scholarly achievements judged competent and adequate for the relevant rank in comparison with peers active in the same field at a major research university. Significant national, regional, and international reputation in scholarly endeavors (funded research grants, publications, etc.) in comparison with peers active in the same field at a major research university. Ability to work with and lead diverse groups, cultures, and communities. Evidence of significant national, regional, and international networks and collaborations in both teaching and research activities. Arabic proficiency is an advantage. Candidates may have research interests in any area. However, the College of Law is especially interested in candidates with expertise in or the ability to teach Property Law and Intellectual Property Law. The candidate would be expected to teach both introductory and specialized courses and to participate in the intellectual life of a talented, vibrant, and unique legal community. Previous experience in the teaching of the principles of pharmacology and systems pharmacology in a medical curriculum.
An interest in contributing to research in medical education and participating in administrative roles in teaching.
Should Have- A minimum of three years of significant teaching experience in a university or academic health system, preferably in North America.
