The Role

This role is for a Head of Modern Foreign Languages with the necessary qualifications and experience to lead the MFL department and teach Spanish to A-level. The successful candidate will be expected to provide strategic and operational leadership, ensuring the highest standards of teaching, learning, and student achievement across the department. Responsibilities include leading and supporting a team of teachers, overseeing curriculum development for both Spanish and French, and maintaining professional standards. The role also involves quality assurance of teaching and learning, analysing assessment data to drive continuous improvement, and contributing to whole-school initiatives.

In addition, the Head of Department will fulfill the duties of a Secondary School teacher, including serving as a form tutor, offering extra-curricular opportunities, attending planning and professional development meetings after school, and participating in other school events as required. The candidate must demonstrate expertise in teaching British qualifications and possess a proven track record of improving student progress across all ability levels.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced, dynamic, and passionate Head of Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) with the ability to teach A Level Spanish. The successful candidate will lead a dedicated team of teachers, drive the strategic development of the MFL department, and deliver outstanding teaching and learning that reflects the values of our school.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the MFL department, ensuring high standards of teaching, learning, and student achievement across all languages offered.
  • Deliver engaging and challenging A Level Spanish, as well as other language teaching where appropriate.
  • Oversee curriculum development, assessment, and reporting within the department.
  • Support and mentor colleagues, fostering professional growth and collaboration.
  • Monitor and analyse student progress, implementing strategies to ensure continued academic success.
  • Promote intercultural awareness and the importance of languages in a global context.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership in shaping the vision and direction of the department and wider school.
  • Engage with parents and the wider school community, building strong, respectful relationships.
Candidate Profile

Qualifications & Experience
  • Teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).
  • A relevant degree in Spanish / Modern Languages.
  • Proven success teaching A Level Spanish.
  • Experience in leading a department or holding a significant leadership responsibility in an MFL context.
  • Strong track record of student achievement and innovation in teaching.
  • Previous experience in an international school setting (desirable).
