Job Summary

The Food Safety and Hygiene Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with food safety regulations and standards in a food service establishment. This involves developing and implementing food safety policies and procedures, conducting inspections and audits, and providing training to staff on proper food handling and hygiene practices. Additionally, Food Safety and Hygiene Officers may investigate foodborne illness outbreaks, collaborate with regulatory agencies, and monitor sanitation practices to maintain a safe and hygienic environment for food preparation and service. Their primary goal is to prevent foodborne illnesses and ensure the safety and quality of food products served to customers.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Perform audits, inspections, and verification activities to ensure food businesses comply with all facets of food safety regulations.
  2. Provide accurate information, advice, and recommendations related to food safety.
  3. Maintain a thorough knowledge of food safety principles, food technology, microbiology, legislation, and industry trends.
  4. Support relevant authority objectives according to the work plan, ensuring effective food safety services.
  5. Gather and disseminate operational data to inform objectives.
  6. Provide technical advice on compliance issues.
  7. Undertake functions and activities in line with policies to meet authority objectives efficiently.
  8. Conduct investigations and enforce actions promptly in accordance with policies.

Job Knowledge & Skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of local and international food safety regulations, including HACCP, FDA guidelines, and ISO standards.
  • Understanding of proper food handling, storage, sanitation, and contamination prevention.
  • Ability to assess risks, identify critical control points, and implement mitigation measures.
  • Effective training skills for staff on food safety and hygiene principles.
  • Proficiency in conducting inspections and audits, evaluating compliance, and recommending corrective actions.
  • ERP knowledge, preferably SAP functional skills.

Job Experience

Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience, with 3 years in a related role; 2 years GCC experience is a plus.
