Role Purpose:
Supports the Research agenda of Aspetar by contributing to the establishment of world-class research projects within and ensuring the highest level of support to the stakeholders engaged in the projects and programme.
The main purpose of this role is to contribute to establish the hospital internationally as a centre of excellence by conducting and publishing high-quality research. Will integrally contribute to the protection of health and performance of both local and international athletes/teams that will be engaged in the research projects. Might have the opportunity to supervise PhD candidates/junior researchers but will also be expected to serve as the principal investigator for independent research projects.
Will work closely with researchers within the research and scientific support department and across other departments and the National Sports Medicine Programme (NSMP). He/she will be under supervision of the Head of Research to ensure all research tasks are completed professionally and efficiently.
Key Accountabilities & Activities:
- Fulfil all administrative and organisational duties related to the organization of research projects acting as a principal investigator or co-investigator including defining the study design, preparing and administering research ethics applications, participant recruitment, data collection and analysis and write up.
- Ensure assessment, inclusion, adherence to research regulatory frameworks and follow-up of the recruited subjects/athletes.
- Prepares articles for international peer-reviewed journals.
- Prepares research reports/documents as requested by the department director and/or head of research.
- Contributes and/or leads the submission of research grants.
- Participate in the continuous scientific education of the hospital by attending lectures, giving presentations and/or contributing to the development of other materials (interviews, clinical guidelines, downloadable programmes, etc.).
- Presents at national and international conferences as appropriate.
- Acts as a supervisor to junior researchers.
Necessary knowledge and Experience to be able to do the job:
- Minimum experience of 6-8 years in which 2-3 years should be in a similar position / responsibility, in a similar Industry (Research activities in Sports Science/ Sports Medicine).
- Proven experience with publishing in international peer reviewed journals, minimum 15 research publications in high-impacts sports medicine/sports science journals as first or last author.
- Documented experience in data collection, analysis and reporting for large scale projects/epidemiological studies/training monitoring-injury monitoring studies.
- Experience and expertise in research areas related to Sports Science, Sports Medicine, Muscle injuries, tendon injuries, return to play, muscle and tendon imaging.
Education and Certification requirements:
PhD in Sports Medicine, Sports Science, Data Analytics, Sports physical Therapy or relevant discipline within Sport Sciences/Medicine.
Job Specific Technical Skills
- Proficient in computer skills, especially MS Excel / Word / PowerPoint and scientific software such as SPSS, SAS, Endnote or Reference Manager, Sigma Plot or additional relevant software platforms.
- Programming skills in Python or similar software would be an advantage.
- Professionally groomed to project a positive image.

This position requires an experienced scientist to use a broad range of cellular, molecular, and functional genomic techniques in a wide array of marine invertebrate species to interrogate the evolution and development of novel traits. The successful candidate will be expected to develop protocols for using multiple ‘omic techniques (single cell transcriptomics, proteomics, etc.) and optimize new techniques for manipulating gene function in non-model organisms at different life stages. This position will also require the development and maintenance of transgenic animals that will be used to examine the evolution of cell identity within and across species.

Requirements
To qualify, applicants must have a Ph.D. and at least three years of demonstrated expertise in molecular biology, transgenesis, genome editing, and protein biochemistry as well as aquatic invertebrate animal husbandry. The ideal candidate will also have significant experience with genome-wide DNA and RNA sequencing and analysis techniques, marine animal husbandry, and embryological manipulations.
Supervision Exercised

This role is integral to the development of transient groundwater models that address Qatar’s unique environmental challenges and support sustainable water resource management.
Responsibilities
Your Commitment
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in developing and implementing advanced, transient MODFLOW groundwater models specifically designed for Qatar’s aquifer systems. These transient models will dynamically simulate groundwater flow, levels, and quality, responding to temporal changes in input data and environmental conditions. This position requires strong expertise in Python programming, machine learning, and hydrological modeling. The researcher will also be responsible for integrating these models with the CWatM hydrological model to support comprehensive and adaptive environmental analyses, ensuring the accurate representation of both groundwater quantity and quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Hydrological Model Development: Design, develop, and calibrate, transient MODFLOW groundwater models using Python libraries (eg. flopy), ensuring accurate and responsive simulations of Qatar’s aquifer systems.
- Machine Learning Integration: Apply machine learning techniques to enhance the accuracy of the models, and enabling automated updates based on new data inputs.
- Hydrological Model Integration: Collaborate on the integration of these transient groundwater models with the CWatM model, facilitating comprehensive and adaptive analysis of Qatar’s water resources.
- Data Management and Quality Assurance: Manage large-scale, real-time data streams, ensuring data integrity and consistency across all modeling activities.
- Research and Publication: Conduct high-quality research, leading to publications in top-tier journals and presentations at international conferences.
- Collaboration: Work closely with interdisciplinary research teams and external stakeholders, contributing to UDST’s broader research goals in sustainable water management.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Hydrogeology, Hydrology, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline, with a focus on transient groundwater modeling.

This role is integral to the development of transient groundwater models that address Qatar’s unique environmental challenges and support sustainable water resource management. Responsibilities
Your Commitment The successful candidate will play a crucial role in developing and implementing advanced, transient MODFLOW groundwater models specifically designed for Qatar’s aquifer systems. These transient models will dynamically simulate groundwater flow, levels, and quality, responding to temporal changes in input data and environmental conditions. This position requires strong expertise in Python programming, machine learning, and hydrological modeling. The researcher will also be responsible for integrating these models with the CWatM hydrological model to support comprehensive and adaptive environmental analyses, ensuring the accurate representation of both groundwater quantity and quality. Key Responsibilities: Hydrological Model Development : Design, develop, and calibrate transient MODFLOW groundwater models using Python libraries (e.g., flopy), ensuring accurate and responsive simulations of Qatar’s aquifer systems. Machine Learning Integration : Apply machine learning techniques to enhance the accuracy of the models, enabling automated updates based on new data inputs. Hydrological Model Integration : Collaborate on the integration of these transient groundwater models with the CWatM model, facilitating comprehensive and adaptive analysis of Qatar’s water resources. Data Management and Quality Assurance : Manage large-scale, real-time data streams, ensuring data integrity and consistency across all modeling activities.
