Position Summary
The NICU Nurse is responsible for providing specialized nursing care to critically ill and premature newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This role involves monitoring, assessing, and supporting infants with life-threatening conditions while offering education and emotional support to families.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to premature and critically ill newborns in the NICU.
- Monitor vital signs, administer medications, and operate specialized neonatal equipment (ventilators, incubators, infusion pumps, etc.).
- Collaborate with neonatologists, pediatricians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care.
- Assist in specialized procedures such as intubation, central line placement, and resuscitation.
- Document patient progress, treatment, and response accurately in medical records.
- Educate and support parents/guardians in newborn care, including feeding, hygiene, and emotional well-being.
- Maintain compliance with hospital protocols, infection control, and safety standards.
- Participate in continuous training and professional development to stay updated on neonatal care advancements.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent.
- License/Certification: Registered Nurse (RN) license; Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of NICU nursing experience in a hospital setting.
- Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and family-centered care approach.
