Piping Engineer - Valve Specialist

  • Drive an Incident Free environment through establishing and maintaining a strong safety culture
  • Responsible for ensuring positive HSE performance by personnel, contractors and others working under the guidance of the Lead Static .
  • Ensuring compliance with HSE legislation, company standards and procedures under the area of responsibility

  • Provides safe and efficient mechanical 'first line' support on defined issues and contributes through application of expertise and knowledge as part of the Static team (Piping, valves & vessels), in line with organizational strategic objectives, targets and plans
  • Review Vendor offer for Piping components, specialties & valves. Provide Scope of work
  • Preparation of requisitions for quotations, TQs, technical bid evaluation, purchase specifications, and review/approve vendor drawings / documents for valves.
  • Assist inspection department to approve various vendor documents / procedures like pressure test, painting, welding, and packing & preservation etc.
  • Valve selections, analyze materials, trim options and operators, devise solutions to diverse actuator and valve applications based on process, costs, environment & integrity issues.
  • Review/approve datasheet, vendor offer and documentation for valves, piping specialties.
  • Provide timely piping engineering support and troubleshooting assistance to other departments, including giving input to project concepts and engineering review of piping designs.
  • Develop and maintain procedures and guidelines to ensure safe and consistent piping design in compliance with internal guidelines, current international standards and industry practices.
  • Piping component selection work, appraise piping systems and their application to abnormal situations, devise solutions to diverse design, material, environment, cost and integrity issues.
  • Assure pipe supports philosophies and standards understand applicable industry safety and integrity codes, approve and confirm design audits, company operational, safety and reliability practices.

Profile

Ideally, you will have graduated with minimum Higher Secondary School Education plus a three-year technical diploma (HNC, HND or equivalent).

Relevant Work Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience with at least 5 years offshore level on-field equipment in diversified oil & gas processing or petrochemical plants.

You are fluent in English with both written and verbal communication

You will have good interpersonal and organizational skills, as well as, a good level of computer literacy and be proficient in Microsoft Office.

Key Responsibilities:

Typical responsibilities

  • Produces and reviews piping deliverables with little input or guidance from the Lead Engineer, ensuring accuracy and alignment with the scope of work prior to issue. Such deliverables may include but are not limited to the following:
  • Piping design basis, piping material specifications, piping line list, interface schedule, valve list, special items list, support schedule, wall thickness calculations, sizing calculations, stress analysis report, etc.

Typical Responsibilities

  • Ensures Wood and Client Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures are followed and that a high standard of safety is achieved in all associated work
  • Serves as the Lead Engineer and/or discipline technical authority when required on projects

Experience

  • Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar with a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience

Primary Objective

Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Piping Engineer to join our Oil & Gas project team in Qatar. The successful candidate will take full responsibility for all piping discipline activities and deliverables, functioning as a senior point of contact across multiple projects. This role demands strong leadership, technical expertise, and proven experience in offshore and brownfield engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the senior point of contact for all piping discipline activities across assigned projects.
  • Independently guide and supervise piping engineers and designers in the execution of project deliverables.
  • Prepare engineered calculations, isometrics, piping arrangement drawings, support drawings, and related piping documents within a 2D/3D model environment.
  • Review, check, and ensure technical accuracy of design deliverables including calculations, drawings, specifications, schedules, and MTOs.
  • Perform stress analysis using CAESAR II software with at least 5 years of hands-on experience.
  • Ensure compliance with project objectives, industry best practices, and applicable codes and standards, including QatarEnergy and Shell DEP requirements.
  • Prepare, review, and approve procurement-related documents such as material requisitions, technical bid evaluations, vendor recommendations, and drawing reviews.
  • Provide technical support during site construction and commissioning phases (experience in this area is an advantage).

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • 10–15 years of relevant experience in FEED and detailed engineering for oil & gas or similar facilities, including offshore.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in detailed design engineering of brownfield offshore modifications.
  • Minimum 5 years of stress analysis experience using CAESAR II.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Senior Discipline Engineer.
  • Thorough knowledge of industry practices, tools, and international codes and standards (QatarEnergy/Shell DEP).
  • Strong leadership, supervision, and communication skills in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Site construction and commissioning experience is an added advantage.

Typical responsibilities

  • Ensures Wood and Client Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures are followed and that a high standard of safety is achieved in all associated work

  • Serves as the Lead Engineer and/or discipline technical authority when required on projects

  • When assigned as the lead, manages the piping scope of work within the agreed budget and timeframe, ensuring that key milestones are met for overall project delivery.

  • Supervises less experienced piping engineers and, where required, be line manager for piping engineers within the Qatar office

  • Follows company standards and procedures to meet with schedule and budget as advised by the Engineering Manager

  • Demonstrate appreciation of commercial and technical risks, managing these appropriately within own work and highlighting any significant issues to the Engineering Manager

  • Provide piping input to tenders and project estimates in the development of method statements, deliverable lists, manhours, CTRs and risk take

  • Ensures the delivery of challenging corporate, project and client targets using sound technical knowledge and decision-making skills

  • Acts as Wood's technical representative for the piping discipline in design reviews such as HAZID, HAZOP, plot plan and 3D model reviews. In this capacity also closely coordinates with clients and third parties.

  • As a technical specialist, demonstrate, provide and develop appropriate technical solutions for specific piping design issues, in accordance with relevant industry or project codes and standards.

  • Proactively engages and interfaces with other disciplines and third parties to ensure delivery of work scope to meet project and client expectations

  • Produce, review, and take accountability for the accuracy of calculations, specifications and other piping deliverables to define the Piping and Plant Layout requirements of our projects. Such deliverables may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Piping design basis, piping line list, interface schedule, valve list, special items list, support schedule, wall thickness calculations, stress analysis report, etc.

  • Preparation and development of enquiry packages including Specifications, Datasheets, Request for Quotation and Technical Bid Evaluation relating to piping materials.

  • Coordinate closely with Process and Material SMEs for selection and development of piping material specifications.

  • Provide direction and guidance to designers in production of the 3D model and piping drawings such as plot plans, line shoots, general arrangement drawings, isometrics, tie-in details, etc.

  • Reviewing, checking and approving of the piping deliverables to ensure accuracy and alignment with the scope of work prior to issue

  • Work closely with other disciplines, coordinating all input for the plant layout and 3D model.

  • Manages the closeout of actions and clash, taking a leading role in the resolution of discipline interface issues.

  • Collaborate with other disciplines in the resolution of pipe stress and equipment connection issues.

  • Provide timely support and input in the completion of other discipline deliverables.

  • Review and approve material take off for the Piping discipline

  • Complete technical reviews and audits within the Piping discipline for projects of varying complexity

  • Complete site surveys and data gathering activities for brownfield scopes of work

  • Remain up to date with the latest technical developments in fields of expertise

  • Takes a proactive approach to personal & professional development

Experience

  • Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar with a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience

  • Must be highly experienced with plot plan and 3D model reviews, ideally having facilitated such reviews for both onshore and offshore facilities.

  • Familiar with Flow and Acoustic induced vibration studies, along with the impact to piping design.

  • Experienced with other design reviews such as HAZID and HAZOP, capable of representing the discipline as the technical authority in these studies.

  • Experienced with different technologies and techniques for tie-ins is desirable, hot and cold tapping techniques for example.

  • Experienced with management of vendors, able to complete Technical Bid Evaluations and oversee development of vendor scope

  • Construction and site experience is desirable, with exposure to the management and resolution of pipe and pipe support issues.

  • Familiar with and experience in the application of international design codes and standards such as BS, API, ASME B31.3 and B31.8

  • Ideally has experience with Qatar O&G customer design standards including Shell DEPs

Design realization

Primary Responsibilities
  • Be fully aware of the Project HSE requirements
