We are seeking Research Assistant for Biological Sciences in our Qatar Campus.
The Incumbent is responsible for Liaising and collecting samples from lead PI at Hamad Bin Khalifa University.
Core responsibilities include:
2. Develop, optimize and perform NGS workflow steps, including sample preparation, library preparation, amplification and sequencing
3. Perform molecular biology assay development on sequencing and sample preparation platforms
4. Data driven - critically analyze and derive insights from experimental data, esp. NGS data, using standard and custom NGS bioinformatics tools and metagenomics statistical analysis
5. Work on assembly and annotation of bacterial and phage genomes focusing on specific proteins with consequent their 3D analysis including modeling the structure, their complexes, molecular dynamics, binding site analysis at atomic level, correlation studies together with wet lab experiments.
6. Independently design experimental plans, execute experiments, perform in-depth data analysis, and present results and conclusions for internal review.
7. Demonstrate exceptional time management skills and have a resilient approach to the challenges at hand.
8. Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary organization

The Applied Research, Innovation and Economic Development Directorate of UDST invites applications for the position of Research Assistant- IoT and AI to work on project Q-Cattle, an integrated AI and IoT framework for sustainable livestock management to increase the efficiency of milk and meat production in Qatari Market.

- Develop, test, and integrate IoT-based sensor systems for monitoring livestock health, behavior, and environmental impact into a unified platform.
- Support the creation, refinement, and deployment of AI-driven predictive models on embedded systems such as ESP32 and Raspberry Pi to collect, process, and send data to the cloud.
- Monitor real-time data acquisition processes, ensuring data quality, integrity, and seamless synchronization with cloud storage.
- Design, implement, and test a comprehensive dashboard for intuitive data visualization, real-time notifications, and actionable insights for livestock management.
- Analyze historical and real-time data using advanced processing techniques to extract meaningful insights and enable proactive decision-making.
- Draft high-quality research outputs, including Q1 and Q2 journal papers, white papers, book chapters, and technical documentation, showcasing methodologies, findings, and innovations.
- Develop and optimize software and algorithms eligible for copyright and patent protection, focusing on AI models, data analysis tools, and system integration.
- Collaborate with industry partners and stakeholders to implement IoT and AI-driven solutions, conduct farm-based assessments, and evaluate real-world applications of the system.
Qualifications and Skills: Essential:
- Bachelor, Master or P.hD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
- Knowledge of IoT systems, sensor integration, and data processing pipelines.

Support the creation, refinement, and deployment of AI-driven predictive models on embedded systems such as ESP32 and Raspberry Pi to collect, process, and send data to the cloud. Monitor real-time data acquisition processes, ensuring data quality, integrity, and seamless synchronization with cloud storage. Design, implement, and test a comprehensive dashboard for intuitive data visualization, real-time notifications, and actionable insights for livestock management. Analyze historical and real-time data using advanced processing techniques to extract meaningful insights and enable proactive decision-making. Draft high-quality research outputs, including Q1 and Q2 journal papers, white papers, book chapters, and technical documentation, showcasing methodologies, findings, and innovations. Develop and optimize software and algorithms eligible for copyright and patent protection, focusing on AI models, data analysis tools, and system integration. Collaborate with industry partners and stakeholders to implement IoT and AI-driven solutions, conduct farm-based assessments, and evaluate real-world applications of the system.

Position Function To provide leadership for an active research group conducting research on pathogenesis, stress response, transmission as well as evolution, ecology, and population genetics of foodborne and zoonotic pathogens (including
Listeria monocytogenes

Salmonella ) and spoilage organisms, including supervision of graduate students and technicians. The incumbent will be expected to develop and carry out a research program on applied food safety for multiple food commodities (e.g. produce, meat, dairy, etc.), molecular biology, pathogenesis, molecular epidemiology, evolution, stress response, and transmission of food and waterborne, zoonotic, and other bacterial pathogens and/or spoilage organisms. Responsibilities will include conducting qualitative and quantitative research, including data analysis, dissemination and application of research findings, reporting of results and preparation of manuscripts, and developing research proposals for external funding. This position will also specifically support whole genome sequencing and RNA-seq efforts in the Wiedmann and Martin lab. 1 year appointment, pending renewable funding, available work, and performance; position is full-time. Anticipated Division of Time The incumbent is expected to coordinate and manage a strong research program in applied food safety, microbial ecology, molecular biology, pathogenesis, evolution, stress response, and transmission of food and waterborne, zoonotic, and other bacterial pathogens and/or spoilage organisms.
