Telecom Engineer

Overview
We are seeking an experienced Telecom Engineer to deliver high-quality design and engineering support for oil and gas / industrial telecommunication projects in the Middle East. This position involves developing and reviewing detailed designs, coordinating with stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with technical and safety standards for both onshore and offshore applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform concept, FEED, and detailed design tasks for telecommunication systems in oil and gas environments.

• Deliver engineering designs for a range of systems including:

  • ICT networks (LAN, WLAN, telephony)

  • Radio systems (VHF, UHF, DMR, microwave)

  • Security and surveillance (CCTV, access control, PIDS)

  • Public address and life safety systems (PAGA, page party)

  • Marine safety and communications

  • Entertainment and lifestyle systems

  • Cabinets, OSP/ISP cabling, and related infrastructure

• Conduct site surveys to gather data for engineering deliverables.

• Prepare standard telecom documentation such as site survey reports, design basis, specifications, datasheets, block diagrams, wiring diagrams, layouts, typical installation details, calculations, schedules, MTOs, and material requisitions.

• Liaise with clients and participate in internal and external meetings.

• Ensure compliance with relevant technical, safety, and quality standards.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in telecom design and engineering for oil and gas or industrial projects, preferably in the Middle East.

• Strong technical knowledge of telecom systems for both onshore and offshore environments.

• Demonstrated ability to conduct site surveys and produce detailed engineering deliverables.

• Excellent stakeholder communication and coordination skills.

• Experience with major regional operators is an advantage.

• Able to work independently and meet project deadlines.

• Fluent in English (spoken and written).

Candidate must have experience in preparing standard telecom deliverables such as Telecom Site Survey Report, Design Basis, Specifications, Datasheets, Block Diagrams, Wiring Diagrams, Equipment and Cable Route Layouts, Typical Installation Details, Calculations, Equipment and Cable Schedules, MTO, MR, etc.
Candidate must have experience in client coordination, attending internal and external meetings.
Experience in working with QatarEnergy and Qatar Shell GTL will be an added advantage.

Salary to be offered: QAR 10,000 to QAR 11,000 ( salary is inclusive of Food, transport & accommodation)

Responsibilities:

• Deliver telecom engineering activities to support business functions and projects.
• Provide detailed IT and telecommunications expertise, ensuring compliance with company processes and standards.
• Operate, configure, and control telecom system hardware and software across multiple platforms and networks.
• Plan and implement system installations and maintenance, including configuration of infrastructure in virtualised environments.
• Prepare outline telecom system designs and specifications covering objectives, scope, features, and requirements.
• Manage all stages of the telecom system lifecycle for hardware, software, and transmission media, including design, testing, maintenance, and upgrades.
• Lead small-scale projects or sub-projects, identifying and managing risks and issues.
• Provide technical instruction and guidance to less experienced colleagues.
• Prioritise and resolve incidents in line with agreed procedures.
• Ensure all activities comply with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 6 years of IT/telecommunications experience, with at least 4 years in project engineering or project management roles within oil and gas.
• Strong knowledge of telecom applications, tools, and international standards.
• Demonstrated project management and IT support experience.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Broad IT knowledge alongside specialised telecom expertise.
• Competent with engineering software tools, systems, and telecom technologies.
