Position Title: Mechanical - Material Handling Engineer
Location: Mesaieed, Qatar

Job Purpose
The Mechanical - Material Handling Engineer will provide technical leadership and support to the Material Handling section, ensuring operational and technical challenges are resolved efficiently. The role will identify opportunities for technical improvement to support a cost-effective production process capable of delivering high-quality products that meet customer requirements.
Key Accountabilities
- Identify, design, and propose technical maintenance improvements for the Material Handling section; implement approved plans to support continuous technical enhancement.
- Develop and refine maintenance operating standards, policies, and procedures to improve overall performance.
- Prepare operating standards for new plant, equipment, and production systems in the Material Handling area.
- Plan and oversee preventative maintenance activities to ensure high plant and equipment reliability with minimal production downtime.
- Develop a long-term maintenance plan (5-year horizon) for Material Handling equipment, securing management approval.
- Conduct and/or supervise breakdown maintenance for critical equipment to minimise downtime.
- Manage smaller projects and contribute to larger initiatives, from feasibility studies to implementation, ensuring delivery within time, cost, and quality parameters.
- Apply specialist engineering skills to evaluate and resolve technical issues in Material Handling equipment.
- Provide technical guidance and support to technicians on non-routine plant and process issues.
- Deliver on-the-job training, instruction, and demonstrations to enhance team competence and performance.
- Recommend and evaluate equipment for procurement, prepare technical specifications, and ensure effective commissioning.
- Coordinate maintenance activities with other departments and report progress at management meetings.
- Prepare annual budgets and monitor expenditure to ensure effective cost management.
- Generate technical and maintenance reports to support senior management decision-making.
- Participate in Quality Control Circle activities and implement process improvements.
- Liaise with equipment suppliers and external contractors to address technical issues and manage major maintenance or upgrade work.
- Develop specifications and operating standards for new equipment to optimise operational performance.
- Analyse incidents/accidents and implement corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
- Ensure compliance with Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) systems within scope of control.
- Undertake other duties as directed by the line manager.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
Experience:
- 7-8 years' experience with Material Handling equipment in steel production or a similar environment (e.g., ship unloaders, stacker reclaimers, conveyors, axial fans, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, compressors, dust collection systems, jetty equipment).

Maximise potentials of different types of equipment in a high capacity, rapid turn round warehouse environment to ensure efficient and safe movement and storage of stock so that it is in the right place at the right time and sales opportunities can be maximized at the lowest possible material handling cost. Operate all equipment in QDF Warehouse including Diesel and Electric Forklifts, VNA, Reach Truck and Order pickers to load, unload and move stock and display units from and to Vehicles and Racks at various locations on Airside and Landside. Drive the Diesel forklift on the Airside service roads to move it from one location to another.
Accountabilies:
Operational
- Ensure proper use of all available equipment in QDF Warehouse to achieve optimal use and safe operations.
- Rapid, efficient and safe unloading of containers to ensure stock is available for receiving process in shortest possible time.
- Timely put away of pallets on to shelves to ensure stock is available for picking in shortest possible time.
- Ensure pallets are stored as per safety requirements to ensure safe warehouse operations.
- Responsible for accurate and efficient order picking to ensure goods are dispatched on time for sale.
- Ensure safe loading and unloading from trucks of display units including oversized ones, to ensure they reach shop floor in good condition.
- Prepare daily safety and maintenance check.
- Ensure batteries are changed and fully charged during free time to ensure full availability during peak time.
- Ensure all equipment are safely and securely stored.
- Clean equipment as scheduled or required.
- Perform other department duties related to his/her position as directed by the Head of the Department

High School Qualification with Minimum 1 year of job-related experience
OR
With a Degree:
Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent with No prior job-related work experience
OR
Essential
Minimum 2 years relevant experience with Forklifts.
Valid Qatar Forklift License
Preferred
VNA and Reach truck operation experience
Job Specific Skills:
Proficiency in written and spoken English.
Forklift driving experience in similar warehouse operation with high-density racking and palletised stock.
Must be physically fit and capable of handling heavy loads.
Must have good eyesight with prescription glasses if required.
Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to work in a fast-passed environment.
Ability to work closely with others as well as to work independently.
