GovCIO is currently hiring for an Inside/Outside Cable Technician. This position will be located in Qatar and will be an onsite position.
ResponsibilitiesThe contractor shall:
- Provide I/O cable plant support.
- Perform day-to-day technical operations of the I/O infrastructure.
- Install, test, remove and perform OM&S of aerial, underground and buried multi-purpose communications cable (copper, coaxial, fiber optic).
- Operate heavy equipment (e.g., cable reel trucks, trenchers, backhoes, chiselers, bobcat, 20k all-terrain forklift).
- Comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), AF Office of Safety and Health (AFOSH) (AFI 91-202), and TO-site specific local policies and procedures.
- Cable analyzer/Fluke DTX1800 with fiber optic modules or equivalent power meter.
- Optical time domain reflectometer or equivalent.
- Multi-meter.
- Fiber optic splicing machine: Fujikura 50S/60S.
- Cable reel trucks and trailers.
- Backhoes, chippers, and trenchers.
- AutoCAD.
- Microsoft Project.
- VISIO.
- ArcGIS.
- Google Earth.
- Standard manhole gas detector: IBird-MX6; Cable locater.
High School with 3 - 6 years (or commensurate experience). Clearance Required: Secret.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Intermediate-level practical experience in: installation of ducts and conduits; pulling cables and terminating, testing, splicing, and repairing interior and outside copper, coaxial, and fiber optic cabling; installation of fiber optic modems, fiber multiplex equipment, fiber patch panels, analog and digital copper patch panels, main and intermediate distribution frames; installation of lightning protection and supporting ground and power connections; installation of cabinets, cable ladder and rack systems, and equipment components in the cabinets.
- Experience with the operation of heavy equipment such as: track excavator-changeable scoop/hydraulic jackhammer, standard backhoe, bobcat, cable reel truck and 20K all-terrain forklift.

• To perform proper Preventive and Corrective maintenance in electrical systems for Treatment plant asset/equipment’s. • To troubleshoot electrical systems in accordance with HSE Procedures • To perform proper installation, preventive maintenance and repair of electrical equipment such as Rotary equipment’s, DG, UPS, MCC panels, Starters, AC’s & Lighting to ensure their maximum service life and efficiency as well as their optimal utilization. • Performs maintenance and operating supervision in troubleshooting problems with critical and less critical equipment. • Performs corrective maintenance work. • Investigates and troubleshooting to be able to correct issues, provides support in performing root cause analysis. • Provides alternatives when equipment failure is impeding plant operation. • Prepares permit to work documentation and follows the health and safety requirements such as safe isolation procedures (Lock Out/Tag Out). • Understands drawings, SLD’s, schematics, P&IDs and supplier technical documentation for equipment. • Report in written (English) regarding the maintenance tasks performed, describing the activity properly and giving relevant data records. • Supervise the work of electrical subcontractors if instructed to do so by the supervisor. • Reviews equipment repair to detect required design changes in cases where abnormal/customized maintenance occurs. • Develops Maintenance repair procedures for critical equipment. • To use Mobile / Tablet / Android based maintenance application to action and close assigned work orders
Requirements
• Educational Level: Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) & sufficient extensive field experience and/or trainings Experience: • Minimum 5-years of experience in a similar role in an industrial plant/Oil & Gas, including preferably at least 2 years in a similar role in a Waste Water Treatment Plant. • Candidate must have capacity to troubleshoot electrical systems • Experience in use of mobile / tablet based maintenance application platforms • At least 3 years of recent regional experience • Knowledge of local laws and regulations • Qatar Driving License is an Advantage
