The Mechanical Engineer (Maintenance) will always ensure preventive and corrective maintenance are completed and in a good manner. He will help his team by giving direction to the Senior Technical Officers / Technicians and support the improvement efforts of his department to increase the performance. He will monitor proper work handover and he should have the ability of making technical reports.
Job Responsibilities :
- Ensure the team below him is well performing the job assigned.
- Train the team on their maintenance task.
- Ensure the team have the correct knowledge of the assets / installation.
- Ensure PPM is finished correctly and on time.

- Deal with subcontractor, scheduling the visit and supervising the work assigned to them.

Qualification :

JOB PURPOSE / OBJECTIVE: Execute Mechanical maintenance and support activities in timely manner and within budget and in order to increase equipment availability and reliability. Ensure smooth and reliable operation of Mechanical Equipment through preparation, implementation and review of preventive maintenance programs and coordination of efforts with internal and external stakeholders in order to make sure that relevant maintenance works are completed safely in an effective and timely manner.
Key AccountabilitiesPeople Management
- Supervise the activities and work performed by direct reports to ensure that it is carried out in an efficient and effective manner, in line with the annual business plans, and departmental policies and procedures.
- Recommend training and development interventions for team members to build their capabilities.
- Manage personnel and activities through proper assignment of tasks, performance appraisal, training of personnel, and provision of proper tools and equipment in order to make sure the unit has a motivated workforce with the right equipment to perform their activities.
- Lead maintenance certification process for Technicians for maintenance to ensure that only qualified individuals are certified.
- Provide technical support to Technicians on their daily maintenance works, provide field supervision of workforce, ensuring proper job planning and work distribution to technicians on daily basis.
- Direct and supervise the activities assigned to the technicians to carry out troubleshooting of problems occurring in the units and recommend corrective actions and follow up to implement the same.
- Participate in the hiring process of technicians when required and conduct interviews.
- Role of DSRs for various contractors for their assigned works / routine works and responsible for evaluating the contractor’s performance.
Budget and Forecasts
- Participate in budget preparation / reforecast meetings to provide right information on equipment history and training needs in order to make sure that the budgets and forecasts are realistic and cover all aspects of operations.
Plant Maintenance
- PM / work order closure with actual Man-hours entry and ensure the PM checklist uploaded in ECM in a timely manner.
- Auditing Contractor / Maintenance activities and ensure SMP's and checklists are properly followed and completed.
- Review / create SMP and checklists for different components and provide input for PM plans creation / amendment as needed for the installed equipment / project added to the plant / units.
- Coordinate with Production Department for the daily maintenance work schedule.
4.2 KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Participate with Technical Department in reviewing / revising preventive maintenance plans based on historical data for continuous improvement.
- Application of preventive maintenance programs with focus on optimizing costs
- Provide the necessary input to planning to initiate scope of work for creating purchasing requisitions for the external service.
- Active participation in Reliability Improvement Teams and participate in RCA / Why tree efforts when assigned to get to the right root causes and follow-up assigned action items until completion in a timely and professional manner.
- Follow up QIT follow up action items, RIT recommendations to complete in timely manner. Active participation to support Micro audits / walk downs as assigned.
- Ensure the Maintenance / overhaul work of all Rotating equipment’s (like : Pumps, Turbines, compressors, Blowers, Fans, Gear boxes, Machine alignment, Mechanical seals, etc.) with meeting safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
- Ensure the Maintenance / overhaul work of all static equipment’s (like : Furnaces, Boilers, Exchangers, columns, vessels, Tanks, silos, Rotary / Diverter valves, PRV’s, RD’s, etc…) are carried out by following the safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
Routine Duties
- Provide engineering solutions to problems and ensure that work processes are implemented as per standards and procedures.
- Implement predictive maintenance program and assist in equipment inspection, testing and troubleshooting in order to avoid major escalations and ensure minimum disruptions caused by equipment breakdowns.
- Manage and control the troubleshooting of problems as required, in order to avoid major escalations at any given instance.
- Establish communication and consult with vendors to resolve significant issues, when necessary, in consultation with section / department authority.
- Perform technical evaluation of bids relevant to spare parts submitted by vendors and provide technical clarification to get right parts from vendors.
- Supervise and ensure to execute routine and unplanned maintenance activities are met in compliance with Life Critical Procedures, Tenets of Operations, Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMPs) by following Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) as per plant policies and procedures,
- Implementing effective equipment maintenance / overhaul of specified equipment in accordance with all relevant standard maintenance procedure, OEM manual so as to facilitate maximum reliability, availability, and safety of the equipment.
- Contribute to the identification of opportunities for the continuous improvement of systems / procedure, equipment’s, and practices in order to increase reliability and operational efficiency of equipment’s.
4.3 KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Assign facilitator for conducting JSA’s and ensure the required documents / drawings / manuals are made available as required.
- Assign and follow-up with team to complete follow up action items from Action tracker / Meridium recommendations / Reliability improvement team recommendations / QSAFE action items in timely and professional manner.
- Act as a DSR for contractors and ensure contractors comply with all company policies, procedures, and Standard Maintenance Procedures SMP
- Follow Maintenance strategy to identify spare parts / material required for equipment overhauling / repairs prior to scheduling the work.
- Identify and create Materials creation amendment request as required.
- Ensure refurbish able items are returned with required documents on time and inspect items upon return / when delivered.
- Support other disciplines in the trouble shooting and fault finding of equipment.
- Take part in Internal / External & field audits as assigned and to complete audit action items before due dates.
- Assign team to Inspect incoming equipment spares / material in material warehouse by use of relevant technical document like OEM manual / drawing etc.
Quality, Health, Security, Safety and Environment
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and relevant quality, health, safety, security and environmental procedures and controls across the Section to guarantee employee safety and delivery of high-quality products / services.
- Share the safety aspects of the organization like safety alerts, circulars, policy changes and medical circulars.
- Adhere to and follow all company safety policies, procedures, and Tenets of Operation.
- Understand the concept of Proactive safety and take personal responsibility to eliminate at risk behaviours and conditions in order to positively contribute to overall goal of zero incidents.
