International SOS Government Medical Services

The Pharmacist is responsible for the assessment, evaluation, management, and support of medication therapies for patients of all ages, addressing a variety of medical issues both in outpatient and emergent settings. This role includes providing comprehensive medication information to all healthcare practitioners and assumes the responsibilities of the Chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. The Pharmacist may also participate in other healthcare, policy, and administrative committees as designated by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO).

Key responsibilities include maintaining the healthcare formulary, overseeing formulary stock, and managing prescription records, while ensuring accountability for all legend and controlled substances within the pharmacy. Furthermore, the Pharmacist ensures compliance with all relevant regulations, including those set forth by the DEA, FDA, and DoD, pertaining to the procurement, storage, distribution, and utilization of medications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and operate a dispensing pharmacy to provide comprehensive clinical pharmacy services. These services shall include, but are not limited to:
  • Intake and recording of all prescriptions received.
  • Accurate packaging and dispensing of prescriptions.
  • Providing patient counseling on the proper use of medication and possible adverse reactions.
  • Polypharmacy counseling.
  • Ensuring child-resistant packaging in accordance with FDA guidelines.
  • Maintaining accurate and complete records of all prescribed medications.
  • Developing and managing a formulary consistent with the size and characteristics of the population and the medical services provided by the subcontractor.
  • Managing non-formulary, controlled medications, and other critical medications (e.g., resuscitation, medications unique to pregnant individuals).
  • Ensure frequently prescribed medications are FDA-approved and sourced from a US supplier or EMA (European Medical Agency) recommended/European Commission approved and sourced from a trusted supplier.
  • Infrequently or uncommonly used medications can be sourced from a trusted local pharmacy or hospital-based pharmacy by notifying Program Manager who in turn will seek USG concurrence.
  • Given the expectation of continued care in the U.S., medications prescribed shall be those available in the U.S. market.
  • Collect required data daily, including prescriptions dispensed and the number of patients receiving prescriptions.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including USFDA guidelines, in the operation of the dispensing pharmacy and provision of clinical pharmacy services.
  • Provide continuous monitoring and evaluation of pharmacy operations shall be conducted to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Reviews and updates departmental directives and supervising policies for medication procurement,
  • storage, distribution and use to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Oversees and responds to monthly audit of medications per PWS requirements.
  • Maintains regulatory required records for procurement, storage, distribution and use of all legend and
  • controlled medications.
  • Inspects medication stock and medication use outside of the Pharmacy per departmental directives.
  • Reports all instances of regulatory non-compliance to the CMO, HSM, and PM.
  • Oversees medication ordering to maintain appropriate stock levels while not exceeding budget limits.
  • Oversees expired medication returns to maximize credit value (if applicable).
  • Responsible for Cold Chain Management of all temperature-controlled pharmaceuticals, including vaccines.
  • Provides medication education and prescription recommendations to providers as needed
  • Notifies and advises providers of potential interactions or adverse reactions during administration or prescription of medication.
  • Provide assistance to nursing staff during medication reconciliation. Participates actively with quality assurance and process improvement.
  • Provides active participation on multi-disciplinary committees.
  • Participates with administrative projects as delegated or as approved by leadership.
  • Chairs the Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee, as per Clinical Governance initiatives
  • Responsible for formulary management, as part of the P&T Committee.
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity in all communications with coworkers and clients, fostering an inclusive and respectful work environment that values diversity.
  • Participate in mass-casualty drills twice a year and remain available for on-call coverage.
  • Complete required organizational compliance education, including assigned requirements that are client-specified, for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.

Qualifications

Experience Required:

Minimum 5 (five) years experience as a practicing pharmacist.

Education Required:

  • Shall have and maintain a current license and registration from country of origin, including education and graduation transcripts DEA License required (if Pharmacist License is restricted) or equivalent if available.
  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD) or a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BS Pharm).
  • Obtain provided American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).

Physical Requirements:

  • Work is normally performed in a deployed work environment.
  • Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • May require bending, stooping and lifting to 15 lbs.

Other Special Qualifications:

  • Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently to effectively communicate.
  • This position is unaccompanied.
  • Ability to obtain a base security clearance.
  • Must be able to relocate to Qatar.

Job Description

The Pharmacist is responsible for the assessment, evaluation, management, and support of medication therapies for patients of all ages, addressing a variety of medical issues both in outpatient and emergent settings. This role includes providing comprehensive medication information to all healthcare practitioners and assumes the responsibilities of the Chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. The Pharmacist may also participate in other healthcare, policy, and administrative committees as designated by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and operate a dispensing pharmacy to provide comprehensive clinical pharmacy services. These services shall include, but are not limited to:
  • Intake and recording of all prescriptions received.
  • Accurate packaging and dispensing of prescriptions.
  • Providing patient counseling on the proper use of medication and possible adverse reactions.
  • Polypharmacy counseling.
  • Ensuring child-resistant packaging in accordance with FDA guidelines.
  • Maintaining accurate and complete records of all prescribed medications.
  • Developing and managing a formulary consistent with the size and characteristics of the population and the medical services provided by the subcontractor.
  • Managing non-formulary, controlled medications, and other critical medications (e.g., resuscitation, medications unique to pregnant individuals).

  • Ensure frequently prescribed medications are FDA-approved and sourced from a US supplier or EMA (European Medical Agency) recommended/European Commission approved and sourced from a trusted supplier.
  • Infrequently or uncommonly used medications can be sourced from a trusted local pharmacy or hospital-based pharmacy by notifying Program Manager who in turn will seek USG concurrence.
  • Given the expectation of continued care in the U.S., medications prescribed shall be those available in the U.S. market.
  • Collect required data daily, including prescriptions dispensed and the number of patients receiving prescriptions.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including USFDA guidelines, in the operation of the dispensing pharmacy and provision of clinical pharmacy services.
  • Provide continuous monitoring and evaluation of pharmacy operations shall be conducted to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Reviews and updates departmental directives and supervising policies for medication procurement,
  • storage, distribution and use to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Oversees and responds to monthly audit of medications per PWS requirements.
  • Maintains regulatory required records for procurement, storage, distribution and use of all legend and
  • controlled medications.
  • Inspects medication stock and medication use outside of the Pharmacy per departmental directives.
  • Reports all instances of regulatory non-compliance to the CMO, HSM, and PM.
  • Oversees medication ordering to maintain appropriate stock levels while not exceeding budget limits.
  • Oversees expired medication returns to maximize credit value (if applicable).
  • Responsible for Cold Chain Management of all temperature-controlled pharmaceuticals, including vaccines.
  • Provides medication education and prescription recommendations to providers as needed
  • Notifies and advises providers of potential interactions or adverse reactions during administration or prescription of medication.
  • Provide assistance to nursing staff during medication reconciliation. Participates actively with quality assurance and process improvement.
  • Provides active participation on multi-disciplinary committees.
  • Participates with administrative projects as delegated or as approved by leadership.
  • Chairs the Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee, as per Clinical Governance initiatives
  • Responsible for formulary management, as part of the P&T Committee.
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity in all communications with coworkers and clients, fostering an inclusive and respectful work environment that values diversity.
  • Participate in mass-casualty drills twice a year and remain available for on-call coverage.
  • Complete required organizational compliance education, including assigned requirements that are client-specified, for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.
