Responsibilities

Your Commitment

As a faculty member, you will report to the Head of the Department and be responsible for developing, delivering, and evaluating a broad range of courses within Chemical Engineering and related diploma, degree, and graduate programs. You will also evaluate student progress and manage the learning environment resources. The successful candidate will be expected to liaise with industry and other educational institutions, participate in industry advisory committees, and coordinate, manage, and supervise final year/capstone projects within the specified program area.

You will keep course portfolio documents required for program review and accreditation processes and engage in instructional and new program development. The College encourages applications from research-active faculty members who will also enhance applied research and innovation.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements

Faculty members will be placed in the appropriate rank based on their education and experience. The broad criteria are provided below.

For Associate Professor and Assistant Professor

  • A PhD in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field, specifically Process Safety, Process Control, Plant Operation, Plant Trouble Shooting and Transport Phenomenon, f rom an internationally recognized and accredited institution.

Experience

  • A track record of academic excellence from internationally recognized and accredited institutions.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of academic experience after the PhD.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of industrial experience related to the field of study.
  • Competency in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Apply various teaching approaches in the classroom and for practice experiences, including the laboratory, simulation, and practicums.
  • Ability to use a variety of educational technology and platforms.
  • Demonstrate academic and information literacy skills.

Scholarship and Research

  • Demonstrate the ability to initiate and conduct independent applied research with the ambition and potential to make significant contributions at national and international levels.

This will allow companies to run very efficient bare-metal operations for high-performance computing, private cloud, data lakes, AI/ML, and analytics. The Solutions Engineering team works in close collaboration with our managed infrastructure operations team, which runs many private OpenStack clouds and Kubernetes clusters for customers around the world. This enables us to improve our infra-as-code products based on our own real experience, mirroring that of our users and customers. We work in Python, creating open-source automation capabilities that simplify operations for anybody, anywhere, who is building on Ubuntu.

Most of the team's work involves pure Python software development focused on enabling true DevOps workflows. We strive for high quality in both design, documentation, tests, and performance as we enhance operations code packages and Ubuntu itself in order to ensure our platform is the easiest, most robust, and best performing for driving your infrastructure.

As an Engineering Manager, your primary responsibility is to the people you lead and support: ensuring that they are growing as engineers, doing valuable work, and finding satisfaction in their career at Canonical. We need someone who can display technical leadership by leveraging a solid background in software development so that they're able to challenge and grow their team members. You will have the opportunity to influence the culture, facilitate technical delivery, and work with your team on direction and execution.

What you will do

Lead and develop a team of Python engineers working remotely in global locations Hiring, coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development Demonstrate sound engineering principles by directly contributing code yourself Plan and manage progress on agreed goals and projects Set and manage expectations with other engineering and operations teams Coordinate with management and internal and external stakeholders or customers Advocate for modern, agile software development practices Help develop and evangelize great engineering and organizational practices Grow a healthy, collaborative engineering culture in line with the company values Be an active part of the leadership team and collaborate with other leaders in the organisation Travel globally up to 10% of time for internal and external events

Overview

Job Purpose: Roles in this level have responsibility for planning, prioritizing, executing, and monitoring of Pre-Projects in an efficient and systematic manner and according to the Company's procedures and specifications and to the Company's goals and objectives. As a part of Pre-project work, they have the responsibility in analysing the problems, carrying out root cause analysis & engineering calculations to arrive at the optimum techno-economic solution and generate the deliverables to the required quality for execution of Project. They have a prime role in coordinating with multiple trades and customers to ensure smooth-running of projects. They compile and provide input to the periodic reports within their area of work. They assist their superiors in cost control.

The role holder must ensure that all activities are carried out in compliance with the Company's Health, Safety and Environment procedures.

Key Accountabilities
  • Plan work activities, lead various Pre-project teams and liaison with all the stakeholders to ensure execution of assigned project activities to meet set objectives and overcome challenges.
  • Carrying out engineering work for Pre-Projects including root cause analysis, engineering calculations using software, as per codes and standards. Producing engineering deliverables, carrying out required safety & environmental studies to facilitate smooth execution of the Projects.
  • Ensure delivery of Pre-project work with the optimal technical solution and deliverables to the required quality within the set time schedule & cost following Project Execution Guidelines and in compliance with The Company's Engineering Specifications & Procedures.
  • Develop and maintain/update Specifications/standards on engineering practice within the trades, including incorporation of lessons learnt.
  • Keep informed of technological developments in the area of responsibility in order to update knowledge, identify and recommend opportunities for increased effectiveness and/or cost reduction.
  • Provide technical support to Operations Division, as per the requirement, meeting the required quality of work & schedule.
  • Support in training of new and/or trainee Engineers to ensure that they are equipped with the necessary skills to independently perform their tasks. Exchange knowledge with colleague Engineers.
Desired Candidate Profile
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of 7 years direct and relevant experience working within the Fertilizer, Petrochemical or Oil & Gas Industry.
  • Understand the codes and standards for electrical engineering in oil and gas facilities.
  • Know earthing, cathodic and lightning protection systems; know contract provisions, stipulations and electrical code requirements; inspect and commission electrical installations.
  • Know engineering management principles and practices, safer design and safe and reliable operation of facilities and assets; reduce risk to personnel, assets and the environment.
  • Know how to organize and lead a project management team for the implementation of a project; plan the optimum sequence of activities based on criteria such as resource availability and budget; project gatekeeping process; prepare, communicate and update gatekeeping project plans.
  • Exposure effectively win bids by compiling technical requirements of proposals, generating project estimates and submitting required bid documentation timely in accordance with RFP specifications.
  • Deliver a detailed plan defining the project scope, schedule, technical specifications, method of execution and resources required to deliver a quality project on time and within budget.
