Education:

Languages:




  • Fluent in English (required)

We have been asked to assist a Shipping company in Doha, Qatar on an exclusive basis, with the recruitment of a Senior Legal Counsel to join its formidable team of in-house lawyers. The position is geared towards individuals who specialise in Ship Finance, having worked (either currently or previously) at an international law firm. As Senior Legal Counsel, you will be part of a team of six high calibre lawyers reporting directly to the General Counsel.

Some of your duties will include:

  1. Provide legal advice and support to the entire organisation, its subsidiaries and joint venture companies.
  2. Address the entire legal concerns of the Commercial and Fleet department in respect of negotiation and interpretation of different types of contractual agreements.
  3. Draft and negotiate shipbuilding contracts and charterparties for the organisation, its subsidiaries and joint venture companies.
  4. Manage the process of taking delivery of new vessels, their registration and all relevant corporate matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice and support to various departments, including corporate governance, compliance, and commercial transactions.
  • Lead the implementation of new compliance protocols and guidelines across the organization. Monitor their effectiveness and suggest improvements to ensure continuous adherence to legal standards.
  • Lead regular audits of organizational practices against compliance standards and legal requirements. Identify risk areas and develop mitigation strategies to prevent legal disputes and enhance compliance.

Requirements

  • 12 years of experience in similar roles in large companies, of which at least 5 years are in positions of progressively increasing managerial responsibilities, demonstrating a strong need for effective leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking ability with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Solid leadership and people management skills.
  • Established understanding of power / energy and water sectors, emerging trends, technologies and key players.
  • A demonstrable track record of working at the highest standards and delivering outstanding results, including managing change and delivering on growth strategies.
  • Proficiency in English (must) and Arabic (significant plus).
  • Excellent relationship-building skills.
  • Extensive skills in leading teams from a multi-cultural background.
